XXXIII

It was 2:54 in the morning when my phone started the buzzing, I checked the caller ID to see Joe's name flash on the screen.

"Joe why-" I was cut off by a voice that was definitely not Joe's.

"Hello is this Jessica Sugg" a serious voice asked, in that moment I knew something was wrong.

"Yes.." I trailed off.

"I'm sorry, but your brother Joe has been in an accident and we need you to come to the hospital" the voice said.

My breath caught in my throat, my eyes started clearing and I mumbled out an 'I'll be there' I shakily ended the call and scrambled to get some shoes on. I ran across to Ella's room and shook her awake, by this time I was sniffling and tears were streaming down my cheeks.

"Ella, wake up, please wake up!" I shouted, Ella lazily woke but immediately became concerned once she realised I was crying.

"Jess what's wrong?" Ella questioned stepping out of bed.

"I- I got a c-call that Joe's in the hospital" I panicked.

Ella slipped on some shoes and I grabbed a hoodie making my way to the hospital, Ella drove because I was way too worried about Joe. I decided to wait until later to call Zoe because this would only cause her loads of stress which wouldn't be good for the baby. Once we reached the doors of the of the hospital, I sprinted to the front desk followed by Ella.

The receptionist looked at me with a sorrowful expression.

"I'm looking for my brother, Joe Sugg" I rushed, I was really worried.

Before she could speak a doctor cut her off, he was wearing his uniform with a stethoscope hanging around his neck.

"Jessica Sugg?" He questioned.

"Yes that's me, is my brother okay?" I asked, I felt my stomach tighten with anticipation.

"He's unconscious at the moment, but he's in a stable condition" the doctor reassured, I thanked him and sat in the waiting room which was empty apart from Ella and I.

"I called the boys, they're on their way" Ella said.

I just couldn't figure out how someone would attack Joe, he was so gentle. He wouldn't raise a hand to hurt anyone at least not intentionally. I knew my cheeks were red stained with tears and I probably looked horrible right now, but I didn't care. All I cared about right now was that my big brother was going to be okay.

When the boys arrived they raced towards us with concerned expressions.

"Jessie, is he okay? Is Joe okay?" Caspar rushed, he was crying and I hugged him.

"He's unconscious, but he's stable" I choked out.

I told Caspar that everything was going to be okay, but really I didn't even believe that myself. Caspar and Joe are best friends, they're like two peas in a pod. It was 7:20 when the doctor reappeared to see all of us waiting. He smiled faintly before speaking.

"He's ready for visitors, but please two at a time only" the doctor stated.

I turned to the Ella and the boys.

"Sorry guys, but Casp come on" I said holding out my hand.

They all said it was okay and they understood, Caspar and I followed the friendly doctor down various hallways and through different wards, we halted outside a room with the blinds drawn. Caspar was ready to go in, but I froze.

"Hey Jess, he's okay. You heard the doctor." Caspar reassured.

Caspar opened the cream coloured door and I held my breath. Joe was lying there, but he wasn't awake. I frowned at the drip connected to his arm along with a bandage on his forehead. He had a bruise on his cheek and a cut across his chin, his lip was cut.

"Oh my god" I breathed, I took a seat beside his bed and Caspar took the one next to me.

"He should be awake in a few minutes" the doctor told us I nodded with a small thanks.

"I'll go get him some water for when he wakes" Caspar spoke, I think he really didn't know what to do so he was just occupying himself with small things.

I gently brushed his hair from his forehead, there was soft breathing coming from his lips.

"Hey big bro..." I trailed off.

"You better wake up soon, I need you and whoever hurt you were just cowards" I continued.

"I still need you though even if we aren't little anymore you're alway gonna be my big bro and I can't lose you at least not yet, so please wake up buddy because you've got your whole life ahead of you" I finished, there was silence.

All I could hear was the humming of the heart monitor, I felt like I was in Grey's anatomy. It felt like I shouldn't be sitting here, but I was. His skin was pale and sickly, it looked like the life had been sucked from him. I took his hand in mine, I became teary eyed again.

Then I felt some movement in the hand that I had clasped in my own.

"Joe?" I said unsure if I was imagining things or if this was real.

I smiled brightly as his eyes slowly cracked open, he blinked a few times before taking in his surroundings and trying to move. He groaned in pain and fell back.

"Hey, Joe relax you need to take it easy" I warned him.

"Where am I? What happened?" Joe asked as he laid still.

"You're in hospital, you were attacked" I revealed, he seemed confused at first but then it came back to him by the dawn of realisation his face.

Caspar knocked at the door stepping in with a glass and a jug of water. He placed it on the end table before greeting Joe. My eyes widened as the others rushed in the door all anxious to see Joe.

"What did you get yourself into this time?" Josh asked.

Joe tried to chuckle, but started to have a coughing fit with a bit of blood coming up. I grabbed some tissue to wipe it while ordering Mikey to go and get the doctor. Mikey scurried off down the hallway while I handed Joe some water.

I patted his back a little trying to calm him down, he eventually stopped and the doctor came through the door.

"You're awake, I'll tell you the extent of your injuries" the doctor spoke.

Joe nodded slightly for him to go on.

"You have received four cracked ribs, so limit movement to a minimum. You have a graze on your head that should heal up and you have a few bruises." The doctor finished.

"We'll keep you here overnight and you can go home in the morning" the doctor ordered.

I called Zoe to let her know about everything and she was going crazy saying she was coming to London, I knew Zoe hated London so I put Joe on the phone to convince to stay in Brighton. Caspar and Ella stayed with Joe while I went home with Jack, Conor and Josh.
