Previously...

"If I killed myself, you might as well have been charged for murder." I picked myself up, brushing off my pants.

"I wasn't the cause." He said quietly.

"That's what everyone thinks." I walked into my room, locking the door behind me.

I win.

Cody immediately tried to come into my room, but I wouldn't let him. He jiggled the handle numerous times before he finally gave up.

"I hate you. Why can't you let me be happy for once?" Cody kicked at the door.

I sat on my bed, refusing to respond.

"You two faced bitch." His voice cracked. He pounded his fist against the door before leaving.

So much for fixing things, Riley. You made them worse, just like you always do.

Chapter Twenty-Nine

"Ri?" Sam knocked on the door around 2pm. I pulled myself out of bed and unlocked the door.

"You're still in bed?" Sam laughed. I shrugged, trying to fake a laugh.

"Should we go get lunch?" He asked, giving me a quick kiss on the forehead.

"Just us?" I asked.

"That was the plan, yeah."

"Good. Ok. Yeah... Yes. Let's get lunch." I nodded my head. Sam gave me a confused look before letting out another small chuckle.

"Let me change and we'll go." He walked into the bathroom.

I twiddled my thumbs while I waited for him to come back. I tried to calm my breathing and focus.

Cody won't bring me down.

"Baby, where should we go?" Sam asked through the door.

"Uh, I don't care." I replied.

"Let's go check out that new place down on Sunset."

"Sounds good..." I sighed.

I need to talk to someone. I need to tell Sam how I feel. I can't keep this to myself, it's killing me.

"Alright. You ready?" Sam opened the door and flashed me his beautiful smile.

"Yeah." I nodded. Sam led me out of the bedroom.

"Hey man, you wanna' get some food with me? I'm starving." Cody asked from the couch, not bothering to look back.

"Me and Ri were just about to leave. Come with us." Sam offered. Cody looked back, eyeing me.

"Uh, nah, it's ok." He shook his head.

"You sure?" Sam cocked an eyebrow.

"He's sure, Sam." I glared at Cody.

"What the hell is going on? Am I just out of the loop now? Does no one tell me things anymore?" Sam yelled. His arms were frantically in the air.

"There's nothing to tell you except that your girlfriend's a huge attention whore... I assume you knew that already, though." Cody gave me a smug grin.

"Cody." Sam scolded.

"It's the truth. Even she knows it." Cody shrugged.

"You wanna' open your mouth again?" Sam took a step closer to him, trying to intimidate him.

"Yeah, I do." Cody stood up from the couch, a grin curling his lips.

"Apologize to her." Sam growled.

"As much as I'd love to..." Cody let out a small laugh. "I have things to pack."

"Things to pack? Where do you think you're going?" Sam questioned.

"I'm moving in with Eliza." He watched my reaction, smiling when he noticed my face fall.

"Good. Can I help you pack?" Sam shot at him.

"Nah. You two go out, have fun. I need the house to myself anyways. Eliza's coming over and we're gonna' have sex in my room one last time." He kept his eyes on me. "If that's ok with you, Riley."

"You're disgusting." I spit.

"Do I get your permission? I mean, I wouldn't wanna' have sex with my girlfriend without my best friend's girlfriend telling me that it's ok." He said sarcastically.

"Ri, let's just go." Sam shook his head and grabbed my arm.

"Wait." I stared at Cody.

"Another request, your majesty?" Cody gave me his cocky smile.

"Yeah, one more... You better be out of this house by the time we get back. Sam and I are gonna' have a little... Celebration party in our bedroom. Wouldn't want anyone overhearing now, would we?" I gave him the same cocky glare he was giving me.

Cody's grin fell to a frown and he stared at the floor.

Got him.

I laced my fingers with Sam's and led him down the steps.

"I'm glad you'll be having revenge sex. That just guarantees that you'll be thinking about me." Cody called from up the stairs.

"Go pack your shit." Sam yelled back.

"Hey, Riles! Call me when you're sick of imagining and want the real deal." Cody egged on.

Sam let go of my hand and clutched his fists.

"Don't listen to him. Let's go." I pulled him out the door.

We hopped into Sam's car and backed out of the driveway.

"I can't believe him." Sam mumbled.

I sat in the passengers seat quietly. I was trying to make sense out of the whole argument.

"That's not true, is it? What he said?" Sam looked over at me. I stared out the window, taking a deep breath.

"I love you, Sam. I only love you." I tried to make myself believe it.

"Do you love Cody?" Sam asked.

"Nope. Never did and never will." I let out another lie. I swallowed a lump down my throat.

Cody's an asshole. Get him out of your head. You never wanted him. You rejected him. You don't want him. All he ever was was a friend.
