After my bath, I went to find Dr. Nan and Professor Curt. They were seated going over some notes.
"Iris." Professor Curt noticed me first. I had been standing at the door unsure of what to do. "Come in." They rose to their feet.
"I have come to tell you that I am going to marry Taron." Their eyes fell on my hand. The ring was still there. "The wedding will be the day after the coronation." It was better if it was sooner rather than later. I might end up changing my mind.
They both blinked at me in surprise. They hadn't expected it to be that fast in fact they had probably thought they were going to have to fight me on the topic.
"Umm....well- sure." Professor Curt held out a chair for me to take a seat. I shook my head not wanting to get into details. They hadn't even sat back down. They hadn't been expecting me to give them an answer this fast.
"Rima can prepare it. I'll try to be as useful as possible. Nobody else knows, Taron and I just discussed it about an hour ago." They nodded at me once with solemn faces. I was expecting some smiles but they did not look as thrilled as I thought they would be.
They had been the ones pushing me into getting married. At least that part was over.
"That was all I wanted to tell you." I tried to smile but it was too difficult. I turned to go and it took a lot of effort to not run out. As soon as I saw the first hallway I turned because I didn't want to talk to Dr. Nan alone so it was better to hide. He rushed past me and I closed my eyes not wanting to think.
I went outside and watched the army train. They were going over some drills even King Darrio was with them on the field. There was also a dark-haired girl with them. Ezra was watching her intently. Thomas was far on the hilltop with a group of archers.
"Who is she?" I asked, startling him.
"I didn't hear you." He laughed nervously. "That's Darrio's sister." She moved quickly on her feet. In her hand was a staff which was impressive.
"Do you like her?" I squinted at him. The sun was shining brightly on us.
"I don't know." Ezra shrugged wrinkling his nose. "You know I have commitment issues." He nudged me with his elbow. He stared momentarily at me. "You aren't sleeping." He commented lifting his eyes off of me. "And you aren't eating."
"I'm fine." I lied to him. He knew me better than I knew myself. There was no point in lying but I couldn't help it.
"No you aren't. You can pretend all you want and I've gone along with it for the last few days because I thought it was better for you to figure out what you were going to do. You think that by killing him it will solve everything." He was now looking at me and I was watching the training. "You will regret it."
"What do you know?" I snapped at him meeting his eyes.
"Everything." He furrowed his eyebrows at me and angrily met my eyes. "I've never lost my patience with you and I have stood with you through thick and thin. I am your Guardian, Iris. Don't for once think that I don't know you because I know if Matthew or Taron or you kill him. You will regret it. I know how much you love him."
"Don't." I took off back towards the castle. He followed me. "Leave me alone." He grasped my arm and I froze.
"You are heartbroken because of what he did to you. I understand that." Ezra wrapped his arms around me.
"Ezra let me go. I don't want to hear any of it." My eyes were shut tightly as his hold tightened on me.
"He hurt you." He mumbled against my head and I doubled over. "I know what he means to you and you are trying to forget him by jumping into that marriage." Ezra let me go and I fell on my knees.
