This is a story about how Malachi met Lex
-------------It was a calm morning in Phoenix Drop and Levi was peacefully walking on the silent streets of the town, lost in his thoughts. Today, it was the anniversary. This day, they mourn the 15th year since their mother and her friends dissapeared. 15 years since they've last seen them mother. They all missed them dearly.
"Hey." he heard a voice behind him, and immediately recognized his brother, who was silently spying on him, partially hid by a tree. He soon enough joined his side, on the path to his destination. There was a place in that forest. A place hid from the eyesight and every human being besides him and his brother. A place where they go every year to mourn them. A hidden grave. The truth was, no one besides Zoey believed that they were still alive. They thought that Zane had killed them, that's why they didn't return. So every year, they were all mourning their dead friends. They quickly got to the small clearing in the woods, where they had placed the six simple wood crosses, to witch were attached photos of all the people that went missing on that dammed day. Levi didn't remember any of them well, only shadows and parts, but Malachi and everyone inside and outside the city had told them all the adventures that they had, bringing tears to the peoples eyes every time. They were missed by all the Ru'aun region. Everyone knew about their adventures, or at least heard of them, and they all knew what they had done for them. The first cross belongs to Aphmau's blue haired guard. They didn't knew much about her. They knew that she came pretty late in the group, and that she was at first an enemy, but she fought along way their mother, and that was enough for them. Malachi placed a candle next to the cross, while Levi placed a flower, as they did every time. The next cross, belonged to Kenmur. He was a scientist from Meteli that Aphmau had met in one of her expeditions. He was the one who helped stop the war with Scaleswind by finding Nicole. They placed placed the same ornaments next to his grave. Next to him, was Emmelyn, who's grave was accompanied by a picture of her and Aphmau. Zoey told them that they took that picture on the day they made up from their conflict. This was one of the people Levi had some memories. He remembers her reading them stories before going to bed, or just singing them to sleep when their mother was gone. The last three were for Aphmau, Laurence and Garroth. That's when they started shedding tears. They remembered them the most. The loss of these three special people made their heart ache and their minds to go crazy. Only having each other kept them sane. As Levi was crying, he felt his brother's hand on his back. He turned his face to him questioning what was going on.
"I need to go. I have a business meeting in Pikoro. See you later." he hugged him, than left in a hurry.
It has already been two weeks, and Malachi was finally going home. He got to see aunt Lucinda as he would call her, and he spent some quality time with her and her apprentice before needing to go back to Phoenix Drop. As he said his goodbyes, he noticed that outside, it slowly started raining, some drops peacefully hitting the ground. He put on his cape, than mounted his horse, in hopes to get to the wolf village before nightfall, but karma had other plans for him. As he was riding, lightning suddenly flew across the sky, making the horse kick him off, than run away from him, leaving him in the middle of nowhere.
"Fuck." he cursed under his breath. He tried to find something to point in the direction of home, but the storm had got very powerfull, and he couldn't see further that 1 meter. As he was walking, he heard another thunder, and the light showed him one last thing. A three. Falling. Then darkness was back.
It was a normal day in Lexy's life. She's been working on a new fighting technique lately, and she was really happy with how it was turning out. Well... As happy as a girl whose friends were dead could be. She was still traumatized by the incident, and she wasn't trying to repair her broken mind. She'd already thought of suicide but she knew that she couldn't. She couldn't make others suffer. As she was drawing a fighting stance, she heard a loud scream coming from outside. What in the world? She said, than quickly put on a coat and left the house, in search of the owner of the voice, but the rain was too thick.
"Dammit." she quickly snapped her fingers, and the rain stopped. And that's when she saw him. A brown-haired boy, not much older than her, at least for the looks. She knew that their age was a lot different. She quickly approached him, than somehow managed to get him out from under the tree. He was really heavy and Lex had a lot of difficulties carrying him to the house, but in the end, managed to get him inside the second the rain started pouring once again. She laid him on the bed, than quickly took care of his wounds and somewhere along the way ended up staring at him. The truth was that she hadn't seen a human being from up this close for some years now. He was beautiful, Lexy could admit that, but her heart was still broken. As she was pressing a compress on the wound on his head, his memories started flowing through her head. All the pain and suffering entered her heart, hurting her in it's own twisted way. As she was doing her thing, Malachi's eyes slowly opened.
"Hey." she greeted with her sweet voice, in a low tone so that she wouldn't startle him. "How are you feeling?"
He took his sweet time before telling her that he was fine. Lex sighed relieved. Malachi was looking in her eyes, trying to figure her out. Why would she help him, when she got so little.
"I don't care about myself. All I want is that the others are alive and well. I am already broken." she told him, reading his thoughts.
As the candles kept burning in the small cottage, the two were silently chatting. He was the only person that Lex told her story. He was the first one that knew. And her heart was feeling warmer.
Once upon a time. That's how fairy tales start. And they lived happily ever after. That's how they end. But this is no fairy tale. It's real life. And real life is merciless.
