Still sitting at the soundboard I could hear him down the hall yelling over the balcony. I got up and went to the door and heard him saying it over and over.
"Everybody clear out now! Let's go! Tony get everybody out or you're fired!"
I ran out of the room and up to Prince as he was still ranting to get everyone to leave.
"Prince come on calm down!" I said trying to reach out to him but he pulled away.
He charged the door to his bedroom pushing the door opened violently. I went after him because knowing him he could tear the place down when he's mad. I went inside his room find him pacing up and down the floor confused.
"Prince can I at least explain?" I begged as he still paced back and forth.
"What the fuck for!?!?!? You had no problem telling your mom but you couldn't tell me!?!?!?"
"How could I tell you when you don't answer my calls anymore? I can't ever reach you when I need you but you wanna be mad? What the fuck is your deal???"
He stopped pacing and in a rage ran up to me and we were face to face. His breathing was heavy and his eyes were dark. I actually wanted him to try something. For the first time ever I actually wanted him to hit me just so I had the opportunity to hit him back.
"After all we've been through. All theses years. You couldn't find a way to tell me? I thought I knew you better than that."
"I'm still the same person Prince. It's you who's changed."
I pushed him away and left him standing my the door as I sat down on the bed with my head down. He came over and sat down next to me. The confusion and hurt in him caused him to let out a deep and long sigh.
"How did you find out?" He asked.
"I was playing a crazy game of kickball during rush week when someone said I had passed out on my way to third base. I didn't know what was going on until I woke up in the back of an ambulance on a stretcher. I thought it was because I was dehydrated and it was really hot out there but it wasn't until they did the scan-"
"Stop! Stop. I can't! I don't wanna hear this!"
"Prince what are you so afraid of?"
"I can't do this. Regan I just can't! I can't lose you like this!"
"Prince you've pushed me away over the last few months anyway! Why do you even care anymore? I saw how close you got to your new dancer. I saw how you looked at her."
"That was for show."
"Lie and you know it! That wasn't an act Nelson! The whole world could see that it wasn't. That must be why you and Morris now have a rift between the two of you. Isn't it?"
He didn't say anything at first. He just gave me a look of guilt. The color of his face was a new shade of pink.
"What's her name?"
His eyes got wide when he felt like I was onto him.
"You know what that's not important."
"Oh cut the bullshit Prince! What's her name?"
"I'm not telling you. Let it go."
"You know I'll find out what it is one day so don't try to keep secrets from me."
"Yeah. You're one to talk about keeping secrets. Jenson."
The sting of his words wasn't as bad as the news i had received just a month and a half before graduation.
