RUSSETPOV
"Die?" I stared at my daughter uncomprehendingly. "Die, as in... permanent death?"
"No. Ma, you went to Sovngarde, correct?" I nodded slowly, wondering what she was getting at. "Sovngarde is just another plane, similar to Oblivion. If we could figure something out... look, a portal to another realm is nigh impossible without some higher power. The amount of magic it would take to open one is unimaginable... and Regina can't help us with that."
"Then what are you trying to say, Kary?" Brynjolf gruffed, eyeing her with confusion.
"We need someone who's given their soul up to a Daedric Lord to be killed... almost." She toyed with an iron dagger. "If we slow their heart enough, then the passage to that Lord's Realm will be clear enough to enter." It started to make sense.
"But who'd be stupid enough to give up their soul?" I said without thinking. Both my husband and daughter sent me a look. "Other than me," I grumbled, shifting in my seat. "Look, either way, I'm not so sure this'll work. None of us have adequate magicka to cast more than a simple spell, let alone create a portal."
"Can we get our Nocturnal to help us?" Kary looked at me hopefully.
"I'm not sure," I replied hesitantly. "Is there even a way to get... wherever it is dead Princes go?" Kary was quiet again, and we were once more out of ideas. "Any other plans?"
"I wish I had the answer, lass." His voice sounded so broken. "Perhaps we should accept the fact that we've failed."
"Never," I hissed, standing up. "I was-- am-- the fiercest warrior in all of Tamriel. I drove out the Thalmor and freed Skyrim from Alduin's wrath. I brought peace to Skyrim in times of great turmoil. I killed every last Volkihar vampire and prevented them from blocking out the sun forever. I haven't failed in my quests once." I stared Brynjolf in the eyes. "I won't start now."
"Then what'll you do?"
"Whatever it takes."
