RussetPOV

I opened the dust-covered case that held my old sword. Sharp dragonbone with a strong metallic hilt. I gave it a few experimental swings, imagining myself killing a slew of enemies.

"Lass?" I whirled around and nearly disemboweled my husband. It was his own sharp reflexes that allowed him to step backwards in time to dodge the blade. "Whoa, lass! Careful with that." I let the weapon droop as he slowly walked over to me and wrapped his arms around my shoulders. I took comfort in them, trying to push our situation from my mind for a moment. Still, I allowed myself a few seconds before I disentangled myself and clicked the sword onto my belt.

It wasn't until I opened a wardrobe and began slipping potions into a satchel that Brynjolf began to question me.

"What do you think you're doing, lass?"

"What am I doing?" I snorted, shoving an entire shelf of potions into the bag. "I'm going out to save our daughter, that's what I'm doing."

"What? You can't do that, lass." I fixed him with a challenging stare.

"Can't I?"

"No, you can't." He straightened up and shot me a sly grin. "Not without me, that is." I tried to smile but failed. Brynjolf seemed to notice, but his attempts to raise my spirits failed.

"Sorry," I muttered. "I'm not in the mood." Brynjolf nodded in understanding.

"It's alright, lass." He picked my bag up off the floor and gave me a toothy smile. "What do you say we go find our daughter?"

I stifled a depressed snort at how ridiculous he looked. "I think that's been the plan since Hokill told us what happened." A knock at the door interrupted me, and we both looked over. Kary nudged the door open, her blue eyes shining.

"Ma? Pa? Two things... For one, it's Haskill."

"I don't give a damn what his name is," Brynjolf grumbled, and I couldn't help but agree. Kary licked her lips before continuing.

"Second of all, Nocturnal's back... and she's pissed."
