Obvious Note: Bryn and Russet's daughter Karliah is going to be referred to as Kary most of the time, okay?

KARYPOV

I comforted my mother, trying to keep my own guilt in. My little sister was dead. I'd always had to have the best toys, the most attention. I'd been a horrible sister. I never hated anyone else in my life so much as myself in that moment.

For once, I felt ashamed to be named after the first Karliah. She wasn't a great hero or amazing friend, she was exactly what she'd become: a Daedric Prince. None of them could be trusted. Regina isn't a Daedric Prince, I told myself. She's mortal.

But what had happened to make my namesake so bitter? Especially when my sister and mother mentioned Gallus...?

"Then we have to get her back," I sniffed, straightening up. "Her and Jyggalag." I noticed my mother stiffening, as if she had something she didn't want to share.

"R-right," she stuttered. I looked at her suspiciously. "But this just means that we need to work twice as hard." She seemed very resolute, very different from the weak woman I'd seen not a moment before. "We must get Regina out."

"That will be no easy task." I whirled around, wiping away my tears as a new voice surprised me. Someone had appeared in our living room, and father immediately grabbed a sword off the wall. He held it out at the stranger, who seemed nothing so much as unimpressed. "So you are her family... I come and find you weeping. Instead of the darkness and hatred I'd expected you to harbor, you mourn your lost daughter."

"Who the hell are you?" Pa demanded, waving the sword at the stranger's face. He merely straightened his odd red-black outfit and fixed his soft brown eyes on me.

"My name... is Haskill."
