"Are you even in your right minds?" I looked at him with disbelief plastered on my face.
Before coming to school grounds with him, I got clothed in my best black dress and thought it would be an amazing reunion like we had planned. Turned out, I was dead wrong.
I know he's kidding. He loves me. It's just a matter of minutes he'll laugh at my reaction.
"No? You really thought I was in love with... well, you?" His blue eyes threw daggers in my direction. Those were the same eyes which for so many years had been a source of comfort for my troubled self.
The empty park, the darkness of the night save for the moon's radiance, I had found it romantic until he broke the news on me. He wanted to leave me!
"B-but you s-s-said you..." I was sure the tears that were streaming down had already smeared my mascara. My habit of stammering in a stressful situation wasn't helping.
"...loved you? Ha! Have you ever looked at yourself? You insecure, poor brat!" He spat the words with utter hate and dislike while his face showed no guilt. I wanted to reason with him, talk about the reason but nothing wise would come out, only broken sentences. I was much too pained to reason. I just wanted to shake this possibility of breaking up from his head.
"A-all t-that t-t-time..?" We held eye contact, while mine were teary and scared, his showed no remorse.
By this time, I had established one fact, Axan was past joking. This was serious.
"Meant nothing to me, you sick idiot!" Saying that, he stood up from the bench we were sitting on, but I couldn't follow the suit for my legs were too shaky to hold my weight up.
Did I mean that to him? Sick, idiot, poor, insecure? It can't be. He must be joking.
Steadying my voice I forced the words out, "Axan, if this is a joke, it's a damn sick one." I looked up to meet his gaze. Though my view was half-obscured by the heavy tears but I could tell that he was looking away, arms crossed over his chest, unconcerned.
He turned to look at me momentarily. "Ha! You really think this is a joke? You are a joke lady!" He scrutinized me. "You must be grateful that I gave you my time for... how many were they? yeah, 5. Whereas sluts like you don't deserve a second of my life."
"Slut? A-Axan you know me!" To any other person calling me a slut, I would have retorted severely but right then I was too broken to stand up for myself.
"Oh, please! Stop it, you crybaby."
"I trusted y-you. I g-gave you m-my whole self." My heart was hammering hard against my chest while tears rolled down my eyes.
My family was gone and now him too? My heartbeat raced at the thought of losing yet another person.
"Go to hell with your self!" His whole body writhed with anger and hatred. But why?
"But w-what did I d-do?"
"Actually," he stroked his chin as if thinking. "Nothing. I feel like I'm too good for a person like you."
"A-Axan. Are you even l-listening to y-yourself?"
"You and your stammering! Just shut up, will you?" He came closer and grabbed my shoulder so harshly that it hurt. I winced in pain. "I am leaving!"
I stared at him incredulous having lost the power to speech.
"Oh and Denae, you might as well hang yourself to death, you deserve nothing better than that." The words left a hard blow on my face. With that, he loosed his grip and turned his back on me and took quick steps away from where I sat paralyzed. I wanted to run after him but my body betrayed me.
"Axan. Axan!" I kept shouting after him.
All my sobs, all my crying, it meant nothing to him. I called him again and again but he was gone, deserting me in that empty park in the darkness of the night. My eyes kept his trail until he left through the park gates.
Even in the open air, I felt as if I would suffocate. My breathing came ragged and heavy. It was killing me. I just wanted an escape from the pain, the feelings, the oblivion. I just wanted to die.
Only time held the secret of whether these eyes would ever water or not but for then, I vowed that they won't!
"Axan," I whispered.
This black day, a turmoil took that what was left in me; my goodness.
Weakened and tired, broken and deceived, I blacked out, hoping against hope never to wake up.
