(Six Years Later)
"This is the best day of my life!" I chimed, looking around at the lavish restaurant we sat in.
"You say that every day," Axan replied laughing.
"That's an overstatement, mister," I said taking a bite of my roasted potatoes. "Maybe twenty days a month or two-forty days a year."
He rolled his eyes at me.
"What?" I said with full mouth while pointing the fork at him. "You said every day and every day means..."
"Okay, okay, I got the point!" Axan raised his hand in defeat.
"That's more like my boy," I laughed and gulped my juice quickly and got up from the chair. "Let's go."
"Where? I'm only halfway through my meal!" he exclaimed, bewildered.
"Technically it's my birthday, thus I decide what to do." I eyed him sharply. "And it's not just my birthday but my last teen-y birthday. Is that even a word? Well, who cares?" I bent down ever so slightly to smooth the curves of my blue dress.
"But my food..." Axan said with a fake pout just when I looked at him.
"Not my problem." I pulled him up from his jacket and tried to drag him out of the door in vain. How much does this guy work out?
"At least let me pay, Denae," he said in defeat.
"Yay, I'll just wait for you on the street."
I walked out while he called the waiter.
I had always loved the outside air way better than any closed space may it be a nice and plush restaurant. Though I can't say I'd been to a place such as this in a long time, being an orphan and a waitress at job.
Axan really had been my knight in the shining armour in every true sense. After everything I went through, I was sure that I'd lose my mind. But then I met him some five years ago and he happened to be just the person I needed.
He had his problems too, his Dad's high expectations being on top, a Dad who knew how to lay orders on him from the other continent without ever checking on him to see if he was even alive or no.
Amidst all of it, he had never stopped caring for me. I don't remember a night when I had a nightmare and he didn't come running to hold me, I don't remember crying without having his shoulder to cry on.
Oh, I loved him so much.
"Earth to Denae!" Axan exclaimed while waving his hands in front of my eyes.
"What?"
"I had been calling after you for so long. And where are you walking off to?"
At his words, I realized I had started walking on the sidewalk without even realizing it. Axan must have noticed my confusion for he came to stand in front of me.
"Hey, are you okay?" he asked softly.
"Yeah, yeah, I am, I just don't know, I..."
"It's okay, come here," he said and pulled me into an embrace.
"I'm fine, Axan," I said and pulled myself free and smiled at him. Oh, those blue eyes.
"Let's get you to your place then?" Axan asked while he held my hand and we started walking.
"Sure." We walked on.
"Axan, look ice cream!" I nearly shouted as I spotted an ice cream parlour.
