With no work at hand, I rested my head against the office chair and shut my eyes. It had been two weeks since I went to Aiza's and my mind was already a cacophony of thoughts. Worry laced me whenever I was free.
Then there was Char. I hadn't heard of him since the last time we met and I hated to say this but my heart was aching to see him.
I got up from my chair slowly and started taking turns around my room in a failed attempt to calm my mind down.
I was wearing a purple knee-length dress with complementing heels. My thoughts lingered back to Aiza's home when I had told her about Abdullah. She was so angry and apologized almost every minute for as long as I stayed there.
I also had the nerve to ask her about the dissimilarity between her and the rest of the family and also demanded an explanation about the age difference of hers and Emaad's to which she calmly replied,
"Let's do something; you don't ask me about my personal life and I don't ask you about yours."
I couldn't protest because if I asked her things about her, she too deserved to ask me which I sure as hell was never going to tell. Life was getting more complicated with the day.
I went round my desk and took my mobile from my bag and typed a text to Aiza.
Me:
So what you wearing for the party?
She replied right away.
Aiza:
Nothing.
Me:
What!
Aiza:
Idiot! I meant I'm not going.
Me:
But why??? =(
Aiza:
Display of too much skin for my liking, songs, alcohol, drunken men and women. xD
Drunken men. That gave me chills. I had no good experience with getting drunk myself and being around drunken men was something I didn't want to take a chance with. Even though other people were going to be there and it was a business party but I still couldn't help feeling scared.
Me:
I'm not going either.
Aiza:
Oh c'mon. You can't just not go because of me.
Me:
It's not just that. I wouldn't know anybody there and it'll be hella awkward. Not to mention, you're my only friend in the world! *grins*
Aiza:
What about Harry?
Me:
Who Harry? I know no Harry! *pouts*
Aiza:
Ha ha ha. Very funny. =P
I placed my mobile away with a smile. Our project for Tekh's was in its final stages and they were throwing a big party and had sent an invite to both Aiza and me. I guess I'll just have Uncle send someone else.
Some weeks ago, Uncle had finally announced to everyone who I was. Everyone had gone crazy because everybody thought there was no living member of Nathanial's family.
A grand party was conducted the proceeding day to welcome me officially. I let Uncle keep the seat of CEO for the time because I felt too young and inexperienced to take such an important position.
I was lost in these thoughts when I suddenly heard an extremely loud noise. It seemed to have come from somewhere outside the building. It was loud enough that I rushed out of room and into the hall out of fear.
I saw people rushing around, worry laced their faces. Some were on their phones, talking in hurried tones.
It must have been a gunshot from a very big gun - a bomb was too loud even for this noise.
