I was standing by the window staring at the black veiled sky, with stars twinkling on it. Uncle Statonn's words that Pascal had died still didn't fail to move me when I thought of them.
I'm not so surprised that nobody thought it right to inform me. Because why would they? I was a messed up girl who hardly left her room and didn't talk.
I was wearing my pink nightsuit, with black flip flops and would every once in a while move my left hand through my open hair while my other one held my coffee cup.
Apparently, while speeding up in a drunk state Pascal hit a tree by the sidewalk in such a way that his car lost momentum and tumbled several times killing him then and there.
His death might have shook me for I was still a human but it didn't for I'd seen several deaths right before my own eyes and of the people I actually cared about.
"Ma'am?"
The voice startled me. I came back to earth from the world of my thoughts.
"Yes?" I turned around to see Samantha, a housemaid who seemed to be in her forties, standing a few feet from me with her usual smile.
"I've done all the work. May I leave now?"
"Yeah sure," I replied with a smile though it wasn't genuine. I hardly smiled genuinely at anyone nowadays.
"Good night," she said.
"Night."
She turned away and left through the door. I heard her stepping down the stairs. Some moments later, I saw her leaving the house from the main gates which were visible from the window next to which I stood.
Out of the blue, a thought came to my mind and I hurried to leave the lounge while placing my cup on the dining table which was adorned with so many decorations it hardly left a place for having a meal. The lounge itself had a plush atmosphere, filled with furniture of different sorts and a lot of decorations.
I descended the stairs and ran through the hallway to reach my bedroom which was in the far corner of the house. As soon as I entered, I looked around for my mobile and saw it on the side table beside my king-sized bed that had purple bed sheets on it. I picked it up and dialled a number.
"Hey," A groggy masculine voice replied from the other side. I probably had woken him up, after all it was midnight.
"Uncle Statonn I've to ask you something," I said excitedly.
"Yeah. Speak up," he replied somewhat vividly, probably sensing my excitement.
"Where's my Dad's grave? Here in Convanlea or back in Toneptom?" I felt ashamed asking about it now when I'd been living here for three years now and hadn't cared to inquire.
"You don't know?" He asked surprised.
"Well, no. I remember about the accident and waking up in the hospital. The next time I got conscious was when I was in the hostel and the in charge told me that she didn't know anything about me but I'd be living there on some scholarship that I took as a child and I'll be going to a certain school whose scholarship I'd won. Since I had taken a lot of scholarships I couldn't doubt her words and moreover, I had nowhere to go so I just accepted fate. A month later, I received a letter informing me about Dad's death." I felt sad saying that.
I continued. "And since I came here, I've not really been myself," I said while rolling a strand of my hair. I was surprised at my potential to deliver such a long speech.
"Yeah, of course, there was no way for you to know. I hope I don't sound immodest, but I told that lady over there to tell you that you were living there on scholarship, while in reality, I paid for your hostel and school fee."
