"We need to date."

I looked up from my math book. She wasn't smiling like she did when she was joking. Or have one eyebrow higher than the other. Annabeth looked dead serious.

"What?" I asked.

"We need to fake date. You know Levi, right? Well, he has a huge crush on me--Piper asked--so I need to get him off my back." She explained, hushing her voice since we were in the library.

Okay, it isn't like I've never thought of dating Annabeth. If I were to date a girl I knew, I'd date her. She's great, and we had been best friends since we were 12. All of our friends think we like each other. Which maybe we do deep down.

"Alright. Can't be too hard to do. For how long?"

She grinned at me thankfully. "Just until I know he doesn't like me anymore."

I unfolded her hands and took them in mine. "Okay, girlfriend."

Then she did a very Annabeth thing: She rolled her eyes.

Annabeth glanced over at me from the passenger seat once I parked. "You ready?"

I smiled. "As I'll ever be."

We got out of the car together. I laced my hands with Annabeth's, more out of reassurance than 'romance.' People seemed to be whispering at us, but I didn't really care.

"It's okay." I whispered to her because she was obviously nervous from all the attention.

"Thank you," she murmured back.

Since we didn't tell our friends about the plan, they also seemed shocked too. Piper was smiling like she completed something she'd been working on forever. Hazel was red in the face, probably because she isn't a fan of public intimacy.

Jason patted me on the shoulder. "I knew it'd happen, man."

At that, I went as red as Hazel.

Piper and Annabeth were whispering about it, too. They were both giggling. Anna looked cute.

"Since when are you two together?" A rude voice from beside us asked. I knew it was Levi.

"Since now." I replied with an edge to my voice. When Annabeth had told me he liked her, I had realized how much he tried to talk to her, or want to walk her to class. I could tell it bothered her. She didn't like attention, especially from someone she doesn't know well.

Levi scoffed. "Yeah, right. I call bullshit."

"Levi, you need to back off. Understand that she isn't interested." I crossed my arms.

"Oh and she likes you? Prove it then." He imitated me, crossing his arms as well.

Before I could respond with anything, I felt a pair of soft lips on mine. Even though I was startled, I knew it was Annabeth. It felt too nice to be from just a friend. By instinct, I placed my hands on her hips.

She pulled away, maybe a bit too quickly. Then turned to Levi. "Is that enough proof, asshat?"

His mouth was hanging open, eyes filled with a look of brokenness. I almost felt bad for the kid. But he quickly recovered his hard look. "Just wait, when he up and leaves, I'll be the one you come running to."
