Before The Storm

When all of us, Alaska Michigan, Oregon Iowa, and myself, awoke the next morning, I could tell we were all anxious and jumpy The mission was getting to us. "Agents Nevada, Iowa, Michigan, Alaska, and Oregon please come to the hangar," FILSS announced right after lunch ended.

I sighed, knowing what was going on. Time to leave. We all got up from our table -we already disposed of our food- and left the cafteteria. C-O waved bye at us. I waved back.

We entered the hangar. The Director was there, and the Counselor was a few feet behind him. The engineer was leaning against our pelican. When we approached, the engineer turned toward us. "You guys know the drill. Good luck. Your weapons have already been loaded on the pelican," He said. We all nodded.

"Then get going," The Director nodded. "Yes, sir," We said, stepping onto the pelican. "Everyone on?" Ash called from the front. "Yeah!" Alaska called back. "Then get ready!" She called. The engine started, and the hatch closed.

We took off. I had to grip one of the railings to keep myself up right. Everyone else was in their seats, still silent. "Zeta, are my armor abilities still up and running properly?" I asked quietly. "Yes," He responded, appearing on my shoulder. "Thanks," I said to him. "No problem," He responded.,

"Guess who?" Eta said behind me, making me jump. "Eta!" I exclaimed. Everyone busted out laughing. I blinked several times, recovering from the sudden scare. Iowa put a hand to my shoulder. "Neva, you should have expected something like that to happen," She tried to hold back her laughter.

"Trying to give me a heart attack, eh?" I said, taking a seat. Iowa sat down beside me. At some point, I fell asleep.

I don't know how long I was out, but I was awoken by Ash, yelling that we were hit. My eyes fluttered open, suddenly aware as to what was going on. Like the others, I unlocked the seat. Alaska and I, the only other pilots, rushed to the front.

"Where are we hit?" Alaska asked. "Left wing! We may be in for a rough-" Ash was cut off. She lost control, and we rammed into the side of something. We were sent into one side of the pelican. "Lock your armors!" I called out. I was lucky I remembered that, otherwise I think we would have died.

We hit the ground harshly. I knew one of the wings were missing, partly because I could see outside. I got up on one knee, wincing. I guess I didn't realize exactly how hard we hit ground. Nothing was broken, at least. Just some bruising. I looked around for Alaska, but I only found Ash.

She was slumped near the chair, not moving, or even breathing. I gave a small salute to my old friend, knowing I couldn't do anything for her. The pelican was almost completely on it's side, making it disorienting and hard to walk... err limp through some of the debris.

The others were just getting up. I sighed in relief. I didn't want to lose them. Wait... I counted them. Three.... Iowa, Alaska, Michigan... but where's Oregon? "Are... you guys okay?" I asked, hoping that Oregon was alive. But I actually doubted it.

"I just have bruises, and maybe a cut or two," Iowa said, looking around, a bit dazed. Michigan and Alaska nodded. "Us too," They said. I walked passed them, careully stepping. I closed my eyes for a moment, and looked down.

I could tell Oregon was dead, to. His neck was bent awkwardly, and he wasn't breathing. "Dammit..." I muttered, giving him a small salute to. "He's dead, isn't he?" Michigan asked quietly. Smoke continued to billow.

I nodded, and didn't say anything. "Shit. This is bad. Do we even have suplies? Did they all get destroyed?" Iowa asked, looking around. "And Ash? What about her?" Alaska asked. "Dead," I said, looking away.
