As I stand in the halls, I think of what my life had been like before so much drama arose. Before my life took a jarring and twisting turn. Before I had trouble sleeping. Before it all.

I had only known Cameron for a few days and yet his name kept bouncing around inside of my head. I hadn't even spoken with him enough for there to be much to think about.

At first glance, he looked as if he was probably the kindest and most interesting boy I would ever have the pleasure of meeting. He looked charming and hot. Something about him screamed perfect.

Maybe it was his chiseled and rather bristly jawline or maybe it was his wild and piercing eyes. Perhaps it was his full and plump lips. Maybe it was in the way his jeans hung low on his torso and the way his muscles contracted at the slightest move or touch. Like I said; perfect.

I used to know a boy like him. He wasn't the best looking person and had a completely different personality but he was sweet and something in his eyes reminded me of the same thing I saw in Cameron's. What, I don't know.

It should come as no surprise that I used to have a huge crush on him, because he was just my type.

Sure, I liked him, but I don't think he ever felt the same way about me. Why would he? We were only in kindergarten when I met him. I can't possibly expect him to be interested in anybody that way.

*FLASHBACK*

"Hey Katie, watch'ya doin'?" Rylie smiled down at me, his crooked teeth on show.

I gave him a big smile, showing off all of the straight teeth that I was very proud of. Mommy says that I'm a really good kid and that's why the tooth fairy let me have straight teeth.

"I'm making a castle Rylie! Wanna help me?" I asked enthusiastically, not being able to contain my excessive flow of energy.

Rylie frowned and looked to the ground, digging his toes in slightly.

"I'm not good at it. I'm gonna ruin your awesome castle Kate." I silently swooned at the nickname.

"No, you won't." I shook my head.

"Please help me. I'll never finish in time, recess is gonna end!" I spoke, a frantic tone to my words.

My pleading tone made Rylie crack from his unpleasant expression and break out into a jolly one.

"Okay, don't worry. We'll finish this castle together. It will be mine and your castle to share because Mrs. Howard says we hafta share!" Rylie took on a serious mask and I giggled.

"Ok, mine and your castle!" I smiled brightly and we both quickly got to work.

At times, my fingers would come in contact with those of Rylie's and I would blush and scoot away. Rylie didn't pay any heed to the small contacts though. That bothered me.

     *FLASHBACK OVER*

I wonder where Rylie is today. The both of us drifted away in the sixth grade. Come to think of it; I don't know if he even goes to the same school as me.

So much for best friends for life and beyond.

My mind drifted to the circulating rumour about Cameron and I. I know it's fake and that's all that matters. Actually, that's not true. This is high school. In here, what's real automatically isn't and what's fake is automatically real.

I drifted back to reality and gripped my money tightly in the palm of my hand, mustering a calm expression. Just because I was well known around school doesn't mean I'm used to rumours.

My mind begins to drift and I start thinking of the way the student body categorizes every person here at SealCaster. See, that's the thing about people today; they categorize everyone and expect them to live up to their standards and nothing more. I hate that.

After a short wait in the cafeteria line, I ordered my usual food; a pasta salad and water. I proceeded to pay for my food and began my walk towards my table.

You know, the one with the asshole who wants revenge for the slap I don't think I completely regret.

Just another day in paradise.
