**Chapter 24**I tried to keep my mind from straying but I couldn't help thinking about the scene that took place an hour ago. Exactly one hour ago, I had found Rexie out on the street, suitcase in tow. You want to know what I thought at that moment?
Good riddance bitch.
I folded my hands together, nerves racking my brain. I was standing at the bottom of Cameron's porch debating whether or not I should ring the door bell. I wanted answers and I know the only person who could give me the answers that I want is Cameron. At least, this is what I'm assuming. His vehicle wasn't parked in his drive way but I assumed that it would be in his garage or something.
Mustering up enough courage, I slowly trudged to Cameron's front door. I rung the doorbell once; no answer. I repeated the action; no answer. After the third bell rang, it dawned on me that Cameron's car, in fact, wasn't in his garage and that nobody was going to answer the door because nobody was there.
I groaned, knowing that I wouldn't be able to gather enough courage to come back later for my answers. I leaned my head on the door, already feeling a head ache arising. Suddenly, I went falling forward and fell at the feet of the person who answered the door; Cameron. Groaning and glaring loudly, I got up. Cameron had a smile playing on his lips. I couldn't help but think that this was one of the very first times that Cameron had smiled because of me. I also couldn't help but think of how hot he looked when he smiled.
"Listen, I needed to ask you a few things," I started, unsure of how to continue. I expected Cameron to let me in, but he made no gesture suggesting that. After a few moments, he arched an eyebrow.
"Well?" I swallowed hard, realizing Cameron wasn't about to make this much easier for me.
"What were you and Jack talking about when you threatened to 'tell?' Also, what secret was Rexie talking about? What leverage does she have over you?" I fired question after question. Once I was done, I waited for Cameron's answer; silence. He moved me aside.
"I have to be somewhere right now. You have to go." Cameron ordered, his body language impassive and his face set in stone. I should've turned around. I shouldn't have stayed. Although, the urgency and nerves running through his voice made me think twice. What exactly is this boy doing?
Stalling, obviously.
He ran a hand through his hair. Cameron has a habit of doing that when he's stressed.
Why is he stressed?
Swiftly, he locked the door and was in the car before I knew it. The car was parked on the curb of the road. How did I miss that? Before I could even make my way to the driveway, Cameron was driving down the road. I shouted after him but it was to no avail. All it caused was having a few cranky neighbours shout unnerving words in my direction through open windows.
Doesn't this seem familiar?
Angry and embarrassed, I got into my own car and began to follow Cameron. I tried soothing my boiling temper by listening to some of my favourite tunes but even that wasn't much help. In the end, I resolved to honking my horn a multitude amount of times and shouting impolite words to the other drivers on the road. Honestly, it was a good exercise for venting my anger which seemed to be growing in magnitude daily.
After about fifteen minutes, Cameron's vehicle pulled into a fairly large parking lot in front of the main entrance of a Bar and Grill restaurant. I smiled in delight before I remembered my reasoning for following Cameron in the first place. A few minutes after Cameron had disappeared into the building, I made my entry. As soon as I stepped foot into the restaurant, a waitress began asking me if I was eating alone so she could organize a table for me according to that information.
Glancing around the inside of the restaurant, I spotted Cameron, Jake, Andy Demetry from the school football team, Rexie, Jason and Kyle. I began feeling nervous since I don't really know Andy and he seems like the kind of person who would try to get under your skin just for the fun of it and god knows I don't do well under pressure.
Although, I think the major factor was that Rexie and Cameron were under the same roof and still weren't yelling at each other. I also couldn't help but notice how Rexie simply didn't fit in with the people that were surrounding her. I cleared my throat.
"I'm actually eating with them." I pointed towards Cameron and the rest. The waitress nodded as I let the lie slip through my lips.
As quietly as I could, I made my way over to their table. Nobody seemed to notice me. As I was nearing, I heard a few pieces of the conversation buzzing at the table. I also couldn't help but notice how sober everybody was, discluding Andy and Rexie.
"What's your bargain?" Rexie questioned, a sly grin taking place.
"Don't." Jason glowered at Rexie, as did everyone else other than Andy. That was when I stepped in. Andy was the first one to have noticed me.
"Here comes the girl of the hour." He declared. Rexie laughed, whereas Andy simply settled back into his seat, sporting a grin.
Jack looked absolutely stricken and petrified, whereas Cameron seemed to be frozen in shock. Jason kept repeating the same word over and over again. That word being 'Fuck.' Kyle looked as if he were about to throw up. I'm sure I looked just as confused as I felt.
"What?" I questioned, unsure of the reason why everybody was staring at me.
"Why did you follow me?" Cameron glared at me but there was a waver in the way he sat, spoke and acted. It was almost as if he was afraid of something.
"I wouldn't have had to follow you if you had just answered my questions in the first place." I shot back. Today, was not a good day for anybody to be messing with me.
I was buzzing with energy and anger which is probably one of the weirdest and most deadly combinations.
"Don't worry, darling. We'll answer your questions for him." Rexie grinned slyly, as Andy nodded, a gleam present in his eyes.
