"Whoa," Marina said, wide eyed after I had finished telling her everything that had happened.
I started with how Louis said Jonah had been hanging all over numerous girls last night and that he was already completely shitfaced when he walked into the party. She shook her head and sighed.
"I'm sorry, Addie. I thought for some reason that he'd actually be a good guy but I don't know who I'm kidding. He's a guy that's in college; all they want is sex and booze." It threw me off that she classified all college guys as sex crazed, party animals. I mean, yeah, most of them were but there were always those few good exceptions...
Zayn was in a serious relationship with Marina. Louis had turned me down when I came onto him. Liam had a girlfriend, she was an absolute bitch but he liked her for some reason unbeknownst to me. Sure, Niall drank more than his fair share last night but I didn't once see him with a girl. And From what I could tell about Harry, he seemed fairly responsible too. He was extremely moody and the biggest asshole that I'd met since I'd started college, yes, but at the first college party that I had been to, everyone drank and had fun; everyone except him.
I let it slide and didn't question her about it; the way she looked at college guys wasn't what was important right now.
I mentioned coming onto Louis and making a complete fool of myself and ended up finishing with how Harry somewhat opened up to me this morning.
"I told you it was a long story," I said, watching Marina shake her head from left to right. She looked almost as if she were disappointed.
"I can't believe he would do that. I don't know what's wrong with him lately. He's usually in a good mood and fun to be around. He's always cracking horrible jokes that never make anyone laugh, well except himself. I'm going to have to talk to him." Marina stood, making sure to keep ahold of her sheet. She started walking back towards Zayn's room while I was still sat on the floor in the hallway. I was confused.
"Wait. What? I thought you didn't know Jonah." I asked, getting up off the floor.
"Huh? I don't. I mean, I know of him but I don't know him personally." Marina clarified. "Oh. I wasn't talking about him. I was talking about Harry." She caught onto my confusion after a moment, "It's weird; he's been acting so flighty since this year started. He was fine all last year. I really don't get it."
"Oh," I muttered with distaste and rolled my eyes. "That's an easy one. He doesn't like me, I know he doesn't. But I've quit trying to figure out why. I've just put it all down to him being a judgmental asshole."
"Addie, I know he hasn't exactly been the nicest guy in the world since you've met him. But I honestly do think that if you would've known him before whatever it is that happened to him, you would actually like him. You guys would be friends, if not more than that." Marina tried to defend her friend.
It's an honorable thing, really, considering he isn't here to stick up for himself. But a short couple ofsentences isn't going to change my perception of him. The only thing that would do that is if he showed me, himself, that he wasn't as much of a dick as me made himself out to be.
"You don't have to justify him to me, Marina. He's a human being; we all make mistakes and travel in and out of rough patches and dark times, but with the way he's been acting towards me, so hateful and arrogant, I can't like him. Not even as a person. As soon as he decides to show me that he is ready to be civil and that he isn't completely immature, I will give him a chance. Until then, I will keep calling him an asshole." Yeah, I didn't really sound mature at this point either; I sounded more petty than anything, but I had been here, hanging out with this group, for a week and he still has yet to say one truly nice thing to me. Every word that fell past his lips that was directed towards me was snarky, rude, immature, or uncalled for. I was tired of it. He needed to pull the sick out of his ass and grow the hell up. I wasn't going anywhere.
I understand you're not always going to like everyone that you meet, but it is what it is and Harry needed to come to terms with the fact that I wasn't going to leave just because he didn't like me. He needed to build himself a damn bridge and get over it because, like it or not, these were my friends. I had come to accept that and now it was time for him to as well. I had started to become close to everyone in this group; except Liam, but that was another story. I got the feeling that Trinity had Liam wrapped around her finger and I honestly didn't see that ending well for him.
"I know I don't have to, but I know the real him and what you have seen so far isn't it. I feel you, Addie, I really do. You're getting the shit end of the deal. But I think if you just give him some time to warm up to you, it'll all work out. He'll get used to you and it will start to sink in that you're not going anywhere." Marina suggested.
"Yeah, maybe." I said, inspecting the two silver rings on my right middle and ring fingers. My grandparents had given me the one on my middle finger; it was a thin banded ring with a Celtic knotted heart on the front of it. The second ring was one that my mother had given me; it was a solid silver band. They were both simple. I sat there looking down at them in awe. It amazed me how such a simple little object could hold such value to someone; how it could mean so much to them.
"Well, why don't you go use the asshole's shower." Mariana suggested, using air quotations around "asshole".
"Uh, how 'bout no. I'll just wait for Louis to get out and I'll jump in after him." I would spend my last waking breath avoiding Harry if I had to. There was no way I was going to purposely go into the devil's lair so I could tempt and lure more of his witty comments from his poisonous lips. I could see him, teasing me because I forgot to make sure to bring the bag so I could have an extra change of clothes. He'd make some cocky remark about never forgetting the bag if he were in my situation. I'd snap right back at him with some sarcastic comeback about how he is oh so perfect. He'd get all arrogant and conceded and thank me for the compliment. I'd shake my head, roll my eyes, and scoff at him. We were anything if not predictable around one another. It was like we were in third grade again, with our cliques. Harry was the leader of the group and I was the new transfer student that everyone wanted to play with. He was jealous so it made us enemies. I wish it was still all that simple...
"Yeah, that would work. But Louis takes extremely long showers. I don't know what he does in there..." Marina trailed off. "And. I mean, I would let you use Zayn's shower but I was just going to get in. Sorry. You could just sit there in that nasty tee shirt but I'm sure it's got to be sticky. Especially since God knows what is on it." I don't know what Marina was up to but I was starting to get a little suspicious. No normal person would sit here and push me this hard and to such extent to make sure that I use someone else's shower while all the others are being used. But I guess, at the same time, anyone else wouldn't have to be told twice to take advantage of an open shower especially when in my situation.
"Alright, Miss Pushy. I'll go use Harry's shower. But only because this shirt is nasty and it's starting to stick to me." I whined and gave in, scrunching up my face while pouting and pulling at the front of Louis tee shirt that was sticking to my stomach.
"Okay. Well, you go do that then. You know where his room is." Marina said, as she walked through Zayn's bedroom door, leaving me in the hall on my own.
I heard a door down the hall open. I turned my head to look over my left shoulder. Trinity walked out of Liam's room, wearing only a tee shirt that barely fell past her butt. She walked right up to the bathroom as if she didn't see me. Only after she found out someone was in the bathroom, did she pay me any attention.
"What?" She snapped, giving me a dirty look with more attitude than necessary.
I rolled my eyes and turned my back on her, heading downstairs.
