YEARS LATER
SUZY
I stared at the white invitation that was left on my doorstep.
I picked it up and read the label.
CHRISTMAS PARTY BATCH 2013-2014
I turned the invitation over and opened the envelope. I pulled out the card and read all the details.
"So this is tonight. Why did I receive this just now?" It was four in the afternoon, and I just got home from work.
I inputted the password on the door and entered my apartment. I was greeted with a fragrant smell coming, from what I assume, in the kitchen. I placed my keys and bag on top of the table by the door and removed my shoes.
With the invitation in my hand, I made my way through the hallway and into the kitchen.
Ah, just the right person I was looking for.
"Hey, you're home—"
"Have you seen this?" I cut her off and showed her the invitation. Surprisingly enough, she pulled the same white invitation card and showed it to me.
"Uh, yeah. This is the reason why I'm here. We're going, right?" Jennie lifted the pan off the stove and placed it on the trivet on top of the kitchen counter.
"What? When did you receive yours?" I asked, bewildered.
"Last month. Why?" She took a spoon inside the drawer and dipped it in the pan to taste the food she made.
"Last month! I have just received this invitation moments ago." I put the invitation down on the counter and pulled out a spoon to have a mouthful of the pasta she made.
"Really? When?"
"At the doorstep. Did you put it there?"
She looks at me, "No. There wasn't anything there when I arrived. If it was there, why would I leave it outside?"
I sat down on the chair and rested my elbows on the countertop. "Well, I'm not going,"
Her head turns in my direction. "What do you mean! I've driven thirty minutes here for us to go together."
"I didn't tell you to drive all the way here! Besides, I've only received the invitation today. If they really invited me, I would've received it last month, same as you." I scoffed.
"Maybe it was the courier's fault."
She shakes her head sideways, "Anyway! We should go. I had already promised Soonyoung we're going. She's going as well, and she'll get mad if we broke that promise."
I gave Jennie a dirty look, "What do you mean we? You! You will break that promise because I didn't promise anyone anything."
"Come on! Don't be such a killjoy." She whines and practically begs for me to go.
"Fine! But I'm not inviting Sehun." I gave in.
"But I've already told them to come..."
"Jennie Kim!" I whined.
"What? It'll be great!" She said with excitement.
"Wait, them? Who else?" I asked.
"Jongin," Minyoung winked at me.
I rolled my eyes at her.
"It'll be fun! They'll get to see where we graduated."
As I stood up, the doorbell rang. I looked at the clock. An hour has passed by. We have two hours before the party.
