These Are My Friends

I left my house to get on the bus for school. This morning was an easy morning, like every other morning before school, Grandpa giving me breakfast, packing my backpack, putting my jacket on and waving goodbye as I walked out the door. When me and Grandpa got home from Daniel's house last night I was so tired that Grandpa carried me to his and Grandma's bedroom and I ended up sleeping with them. I guess I can't have any nightmares in their room because I didn't wake up at all during the night, which was awesome. But I wont suddenly ask if I can stay in there forever, they'll worry.

When I arrived in front of the school, I noticed a kid running from a bench to the bus. It was Daniel; what is he doing? The doors opened and all the kids rushed out and ran into the building. I was the last to get off and when I got down the bus stairs, I was greeted by the smiling face of Daniel. He probably has one of the biggest, brightest smiles I've ever seen; it felt nice. We talked for a bit as we went into the school and to our classroom. He went to his hook and I went to mine. I was still looking for my apple slices when Daniel walked up next to me.

"What are you looking for?" he asked.

"My apples," I simply replied, still searching, "Grandpa always packs them and I eat them before class."

"We should be twins, I'm the same, only I eat oranges."

I looked at him and he held up a sandwich bag full of orange slices, just like he said. I giggled at him and finally pulled my bag of apples out from my backpack and we ate our fruit together; talking to each other once again.

The school bell rang and we both walked into the classroom; greeting Mrs. Dole at the same time. We then went our separate ways to go to our desks. Since yesterday we left our paintings on the room to dry, Mrs. Dole was handing them back to us to take home. As she went down the huge list of students names, she reached my name and I walked to the front of the class to pick it up. I grabbed it out of her hands and left to go back to my desk. I continued to look at my artwork as I was walking, it was just as great as it was when I finished it; I'm surprised none of Taylor's friends messed with it. I sat down in my chair and neatly pushed my Bonnie painting to the side, excited to give it to Daniel. When it was Daniel's turn to get his painting back, he looked just as excited as I was. I guess he couldn't wait to switch either. I really want to know how it turned out. From all the pictures in his room it probably looked very nice and neat. But I can't assume, I'll have to wait and see when I go over to his house again.

The bell soon rang for lunch and everyone ran out of the classroom to their hook to grab their lunch boxes. The kids made it back to their desks and started eating and chatting with one another. I just did my usual of sitting by myself, eating and writing in my notebook. Today I was writing about when I went to Daniel's house and played with him. I also wrote about Mike's encounter with us but I didn't write about Sammy, I wanted to get permission from Mike first, just in case this got into Taylor's hands; I just wanted to be safe. I glanced over at Daniel's desk and saw him with a few other people, more of his friends maybe, talking and drawing. I wanted to join but I didn't want to interfere with their fun, so I stayed put; writing once more.

Recess then arrived and I went to my hang out spot to relax. But as I was making my way to the playground, I saw four kids already there. I continued cautiously, hoping that it wasn't Taylor and her group. Once I got closer I was relieved to find out that it was Daniel and his friends I saw before during lunch. I walked over to him and waved hello. He and all his buddies wave in returned.

"Hey Sam," he said and faced his friends, "This is where we met before. This is Sam Nicolson, another friend of mine."

"Hi," I said quietly.

"Hi, nice to meet you," one boy said.

He had dark brown, wavy hair, hazel eyes and was a little taller than me. He wore a light blue polo shirt and almost black jeans. The other was the same height as the first boy and he had black hair and light-brown eyes. His hair was all over the place but it looked cool. He wore a dark green top and blue jeans. The last person was a girl, the same height as me; she had shoulder length brown hair with a pink bow on one side. She had jade green eyes and wore a pink and purple stripped dress with a black belt around her waist. We all then greeted each other and I learned everyone's names. The dark brown-haired kid's name was Henry and his brother was Joey, the blonde one. The girl's name was Susie but she also told me that her nickname was Alice. I didn't know why so I just went with Susie in the mean time.

We all played on the climber together until the bell rung, then we all walked back inside. When all the students got in their seats and were quiet, Mrs. Dole explained what we were going to be working on for science.

"So as you all know," she started, "We're learning about all the systems in your body, like your Skeletal system and your Digestive system. You are going to working in groups and making a presentation of the body system of your choice. Also you guys get to choose who to work with but at a maximum of five people per group please."

After she explained, me and Daniel both looked at each other and nodded. We both had the same idea.

When the bell rang for the end of school, I met up with Daniel, Henry, Joey and Susie before going outside. Once we all did something seemed different... there were no buses. I guess they were running late or something, so I stayed with my group and we talked for a while. Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed a tall, slim man walking toward us. He reached our group and put his hands on Susie's shoulders.

"Hey Angel," he said to her, "Time to go home, say goodbye to your friends."

"Sorry guys," Susie then said, "I guess my dad wants me home quick. See you guys tomorrow; it's nice to be your new friend, Sam."

As she was giving farewell to everyone, I took some time to look at her dad. He was fairly pale with dirty-blonde hair and blue eyes. He had freckles and wore white pants, that had some dark stains near his shoes, and a black button-up shirt. But I noticed something odd about his face, there was a very visible, long, white line on his forehead, from about the middle of his forehead to where his left eyebrow ended. I was about to ask what that was but didn't get the chance because he and Susie were walking away; back to their car.

Later my bus pulled into the parking lot and it meant that I had to go home. Henry and Joey both hugged either side of me at the same time and said goodbye. Daniel also said bye and I quickly ran to my bus. When I sat in my seat by the window, I saw the three boys and I smiled and waved to them. They noticed me waving and they waved back; all waving with their right arm. They are really funny and I'm happy that I made so many new friends.
