she gazed into his eyes
they had darkened
along with the sky
he held her close
but somehow she felt
like he wasn't close enough
she had longed for this
for many nights, it felt like
a lifetime ago
and now that she had it
...well she was terrified
in such a way that made her shiver intensely
"calm down" he chuckled quietly
for a moment her insides were at ease
he ran his hand along her back
gently tickling the dimples
and the end of her spine
he had seen her like this before
her breathing quickened
she couldn't help it
and knowing that she worried him
didn't make it any easier
she was scared
and he knew it
but he smiled and kissed her anyway
never letting her see
how afraid he was too
they laid there in silence
and though her breathing
never calmed
and her heart
never really settled
she was beginning to like
the dull pain in her chest
it made her feel more alive
than she ever had before
she felt like she'd come across a gem
too valuable to lose
her own personal star
he continued to hold her
close to him, no one said anything
both of them understood
how special the moment was
both unwilling to let the other go
maybe that's all anyone really wants
something to hold onto
something that won't let go
she remembered hearing once
that if someone made your heart
skip a beat when you hold their hand
that person isn't the one
the person who made you feel
warm and safe
was the one you are meant to marry
she wanted to ask
whoever came up with that
"what do you do when
you find someone that does both?"
