too many of us live our lives
caught between who we want
to be and what is expected of us.
everything we do, the things we
wear, the music we listen to, our aspirations
even our bodies are up for scrutiny.
we are expected to be balanced at all
times. we have to be pulled together,
composed and refined.
what if i like spinning like a record?
i am not a simple pop melody repetitive
and predictable. i am jazz, i have soul, i am rhythm and blues at its finest. this is
what most of us are and it's
what we want to be. we are poetry
not meant to be studied or understood.
instead we are meant to elicit
emotion, meant to reach into your soul
rip you apart and create something new,
meant to create life and we
are beautiful, chaotically beautiful.
so love us or leave us, and should we cry
do not be mistaken, our tears will only
nourish the galaxy of love we have within us.
there is nothing basic about us
so fuck off
