Leila's POV

I swish my legs back and forth before hopping down from the counter I was sitting on.

"Are you sure you don't need any help?" I ask Logan, my best friend for as long as I can remember and the castle cook.

"No, I've got it," he answers, continuing to chop carrots. I frown at his answer. Why is he being so serious? He's usually super silly and crazy. I leave to walk through the small hallways back to the main entryway. This part of the castle is like a maze, but I've been here long enough to memorize it. Down here is the other kitchen, the kitchen garden, and the servants' quarters. And no, it's not a cramped space with no supplies and guards constantly on watch; we treat our servants well here.

As soon as I enter the main entryway, a loud clatter to my right alerts me. It's just Kaily, the castle jester. As usual, she's up to some funny antic that I have to clean up. Kaily has a high forehead, clown make-up, and shoulder length straight auburn hair she usually wears pulled back, but not a ponytail. That girl is extremely hyper. When I finish clening up, I fetch Delilah from her room and we walk to mine. It's much smaller and less fancy than hers, but I love it. It's got a small purple four-poster, a vanity, and a piano in the corner. After I lock the door, we walk, arm in arm, to the entrance where Marie, who is carrying a basket of food to sell at the market in one arm and a hover board in the other, is waiting for us. A hoverboard is like a skateboard but with no wheels. Her skin is very tan, and her pink hair with many highlights is in a huge ponytail. She's wearing a hot pink t-shirt and ripped jeans with frayed edges

I grab two hoverboards from a supply closet by the door and hand one to Delilah. We all hop on our boards amd zoom out of the castle.

"Princess! Princess Delilah!" a man yells behind us. We stop and wait for him. "Prince Xayn told me to give this to you," he pants, out of breath and bowing. I recognize him as a mail carrier. He hands a note to Delilah and left.

"Wait who was that?" Marie asks, confused. She's always confused.

"The mail carrier, Marie," Delilah says, shaking her head and smiling.

"Ooh! What does it say?" I ask Delilah.

"I'm going to wait for the others to read it," she replies, shoving the note in her pocket. We ride our hoverboards out of the castle gates and in to the marketplace, where Marie sells her goods. Marie's a peasant, so every day she has to come to the market to make enough money to provide for her family. Then we ride our hoverboards through the marketplace streets to our favorite cafe, Bluet Retande. The owner, Mrs. Peer, warmly greets us as we find a table and wait for the others.
