That is how I imagine Lord Senic to look.
___________My... father? My father I've only known as an abusive, red-neck kind of guy. Loved to drink and sit in his truck to avoid mom. Unless... they mean my real father. The one that left me to have to call that wretched man 'Dad'. If they were talking to my real father then I want nothing to do with him.
Do I run back to my room and hide? Or do I just confront them now? No, I'm not hiding. I'm not a mouse afraid of my own shadow.
"Who was that?" I question as I round the corner. Adelaide jumped slightly and Henry turned to me with shock. "Oh... Melissa, sweetheart. W-we were just-" I had to stop her. "Don't lie. Who was he." I demanded. I know I shouldn't speak to them that way but I had to know. Was that man really my father.
"His name is Senic Arington. He's a duke, and a highly respected man. His wife died 19 years ago. In his grief he couldn't bare to look at the two year old who looked so much like her mother at that age. So he gave that daughter to an old friend. The woman was named Diane Kenning, her husband was Joseph Lyrican. The young girl took the name of Kenning since that was her fathers' friend." Henry explained. "As she grew older her powers had begun to manifest. At 4 she was able to telepathically move objects around the room. But once she played a trick on Josephs' brother. She messed with the gas tank and put the fuel on the engine by accident. Having tried to do it without looking she missed what was supposed to happen. As Josephs' brother drove away the car blew up. Joseph turned into a drunk and knew that the little girl was who did it. So since the police would never believe him he took it upon himself to bring justice to his brother by abusing that girl every chance he got." Henry spoke more and more and his voice became low. Tenderness in his tone, speaking sadly.
"That was me..." I muttered. Adelaide nodded slowly. "Yes dear, that was you. Once his abusive nature started your powers knew it was their fault so they hid within you. But once Tony shoved you that day he awakened them because they knew you were in trouble." she declared. I couldn't help but lightly pet the wings that lay draped on my shoulders. My personal cape.
What to say next? I just learned where I really came from. Should I not feel relieved? No I shouldn't. I killed a man when I was four years old. I deserved everything I've ever gotten as punishment. No friends, no proper family, I deserved it. "I don't want to see him." I declared. "I refuse to see Senic." I said as I stared at the marble floor. Did it always have these circles of yellow?
"He's going to be there, my dear. It is best to face him now." Henry said. "No. He could've visited me. Could have written or said something!" I yelled. "I could've understood but no! I had to rot because he couldn't stand the sight of me. Because my mother died and he didn't want to deal with me. Then he'll never have to deal with me." I said. Leaving the room with that. Anger and harmful rage bore through my body. I stormed back to my room but as I went to grab the handle I felt a small hand touch mine.
"M-miss?" A small boy questioned. I wasn't aware there were this young of people in this castle. "I'm afraid I've gotten lost." he claimed as he held my wrist. "You see ma'am, I'm new here. I'm afraid I've lost my way within the castle. I belong in the kitchen." his higher pitched voice said with a hint of a Scottish accent. I couldn't help but wonder why a boy 12 years of age or less would be working here. "What's your name?" I ask as I crouch beside him. "Erksine." he answered proudly. "I see, and what a marvelous name it is." I complimented. "Come, I'll take you back to the kitchen." I said softly and held out my hand. His smile glimmered in the dimly lit hall. His hand wrapping around mine and waited for me to lead the way.
After a few twists and turns we came to the ball room. "What room is this?" he said, his small voice echoing in this large room. "This is the ball room, where everyone will be gathering tonight." I explained. Erksine smiled slightly as he started to giggle. His hold on my wrist loosening until he let go completely and started dancing. Spinning and laughing around the elegant ball room. An angel in the form of a child.
