I held my breath as the key turned in the lock and the door slowly opened without a single push coming from Tony. Witchcraft? I don't know whether to be in awe or fear, but the sweeping smell of blood that lingered in the air told me fear. I was greeted with a dark hall and torches lining the walls. Thick, dark brick walls, complimented by a dark red tiled floor. He took my hand in his as he stepped forward, I followed. Feeling more scared now then what I had in the forest.
The corridor seemed to last a long time until I really started using my night vision. I could see the thick, dark oak doors that lined the hall. Thin slivers of light coming from under them. "Brother?" said a males tone. Looking up from the lights I saw a man at the end of the hall. His hair thick and black, with features that were much darker than my own. I thought vampires were pale? Especially if he lives in a place like this. "What brings you to this side of the castle?" he asked suspiciously but with a gleaming smile on his lips. He walked up arms wide open and hugged Tony. "Felix, for once you're near the door." Tony said, forgetting Felix's question. "I was coming to check on the Little Broken One," he paused looking to me. "But it appears she is perfectly fine once more." he inhaled softly. "And claimed." he said in a proud tone and looked at Tony. "About time, mother was getting anxious about when you'd turn the human." he said softly.
They chat a while longer. Tony telling him the story. Once again, the shock of me being avian struck another person into surprise. "Really?" he asked looking to me, suddenly noticing my wings wrapped around me. "Ah, I thought that was just Lilith choosing her style." he said as they chuckled. "Well? Let's seem them." he said. I looked around the small corridor. "Can't. Not enough room." I stated softly. "She speaks," he chuckled. "Come, you must come to the ball room and show us." he said us, making me think it wasn't Tony he was speaking of.
We followed him down the corridor where it opened to a huge room, also lit by torches and a chandelier of heavy candles that made the room smell of vanilla. Straight from the corridor sat two thrones. A gruff looking man and a slim, fragile woman sitting on the two golden and silver thrones. "Mother, Father." Tony remarked in a tone that showed respect and slight annoyance when he stated 'father'. I wondered their history. "My boys." his mother called, standing from her throne. Coming to hug her two boys. As she got closer I noticed how young she looked. Her skin so porcelain and perfect, her black hair draping over her shoulders and back and framed her perfect heart-shaped face. Her dress was that of a baby blue, slim and flowing, that matched her eyes. Her smiled gleamed as she hugged her sons. Those blue eyes looked to me, her smile seeming to gain in size. "Melissa, my dear. Tony waited too long to bring you here." she said softly as I started to smile at the sweet woman before me. Her eyes came to mine, her smile faltered slightly. A gruff throat clearing came from behind her. Her smile completely dissipated as she stepped back. The king, Tony's father, stood from his seat. Walking toward me. Oh no... I thought. Tony's face seemed to mirror my thought as I held in my fear. He stood toe to toe with me, looking down on me. My eyes hit the floor and my head went down. His hand lifted my chin, making me look at him. A soft smirk coming over those hard lips. "Avian." he whispered.
Oh shit.. I thought again. "The gods were in your favor my boy." he said with a smile over his lips now. I let out a breath I was holding back and so did Tony. "Thank you, father." he said softly. "Show us your wings child." the king ordered. My wings unhooked and lifted high into the air, spreading to show their magnificence. The queen gawked in awe as the king just looked proud. "A fair, specimen indeed. And a beautiful bride to be." he said softly. Felix smiled softly "So... she is accepted then?" he asked. "Not yet, boy. She still needs the approval of your oldest brother." he announced softly. "But father, he never comes around here anymore." came Tony's retort. "For the ball we are throwing he will. In honor of your mate, and future bride." he said as he took his wife's hand and brought her back to her seat. A ball? But... I can't dance... I have nothing to wear... I started to panic slightly. My dear do not worry. I will show you how to dance, and Lilith can make a dress for you. His voice in my head again. I looked to him and nodded slightly.
