After Loki had made me my hot chocolate and baked cookies (which I honestly didn't think he'd be able to do and was pleasantly surprised) I fell asleep on his lap while he raked his fingers through my hair.
I woke up with a yawn and Loki smiled down at me.
"Good morning."
"How long did I sleep?"
"Approximately, six hours."
"And you've just been sitting here that whole time?!" I exclaimed as I sat up.
"Of course, why wouldn't I?"
I almost broke down crying right then and there. That was kinder than he could even imagine.
"Thank you," I smiled at him.
"For what?"
"For existing."
He smiled, a real smile, at that.
"I don't know if I should get you involved in this," he admitted.
"Get me involved in what?" I wondered.
"There's a battle coming, and it's going to hurt a lot of people. I know that I should probably send you back to Avery, but part of me doesn't want to."
"Loki, I just have one question. What on earth lead you to believe that I would leave?"
He frowned. "What?"
"I'm going to stand by you now. That's it. You can't get rid of me now. I'm like a virus!" I laughed and collapsed onto him.
"But you saw what I do, I kill people. That's the truth."
"And I don't have to like that you kill people but that doesn't mean I'm going to run away scared like a five-year-old. I know the real you and I know that you don't enjoy killing people, but you do it, and I'm not going to leave you alone just because of that."
"I kill people, and you won't leave me?"
"Nope," I smiled and shook my head. "You're stuck with me."
"What a wonderful 'virus' to have."
I laughed and sat up again.
"What about you? You don't think I'm weird for having nightmares about my mom or forgetting to eat or sleep if I don't have someone reminding me?"
"Quite the opposite. It seems like, with me, you don't have nightmares about your mother, and you remember to eat and sleep."
"Well, I know that," I sighed as I rested my feet on his lap. "I just wanted to make sure you won't think I'm weird for doing all this stuff in the first place. I mean, it's not exactly normal."
"Of course, I won't," he scoffed. "Now, what was that you said about being able to hack?"
I laughed. "I learned how to hack sophomore year in high school. Avery taught me how when I wanted to change my failing grade in math to a passing grade. It's pretty easy when you get the hang of it."
"Would you mind?" He gestured to Tony's computer and I laughed again.
I just jumped up and headed to the computer.
"Thank you."
"No problem," I grinned.
The computer asked for a password and I laughed.
"This one should be easy," I remarked.
I typed in: Tonyisdabest.
"Of course that worked," I sighed.
I started searching through all his files when the computer locked itself up.
"I knew this would happen."
I wasn't stupid. I knew about Jarvis. He probably figured out pretty quickly that neither Tony nor Pepper was on this computer.
This was probably the problem Loki encountered.
I cracked my knuckles. "Okay, Jarvis. Let's see if you can beat me at my own game."
I started typing codes as fast as possible. Jarvis was a fair opponent. He knew the system better than me, but I understood hacking better than him. He could only put up so many locks and if you poke something with a stick enough times it has to crumble.
Loki brought me tea and a bowl of chips. Then, he pulled up a seat and watched as I locked Jarvis out of his own system.
I giggled as I heard him over the intercom.
"I- I can't access any of my systems." He struggled for a little bit.
"Come on, Jarvis," I whispered. I didn't want to hurt Jarvis, he was so smart that I would feel awful for damaging something so perfect. I started to consider hacking into him and giving him more power when he regained stability.
"You are a worthy opponent Miss. Vaughan."
I smiled. "Thank you, Jarvis."
I accessed all the personal records of the avengers and cast them three-dimensionally so that Loki could interact with them.
"I love Stark technology," I sighed.
He smirked and read the different information about each avenger.
"It seems that Natasha has a bit of a history," Loki told me.
"Really?" I walked over to him and he wrapped an arm around me. "Who the hell is the Winter Soldier?" I asked him and he shrugged. I rested my head on his shoulder.
"No idea, but look at this." He pointed to a video attached to the file. He pressed it and it started playing. "It seems Miss. Romanoff had a little fling with Clint."
"That means she must really hate you. Wait," I lifted my head off his shoulder and looked up at him. "That might be why she was so desperate to help me get over you."
"Was she?"
"Well, not exactly desperate, but she definitely wanted to make me feel like a member of the team. It was as if she was trying to make me feel more at home with them than you."
"I think I should be seeing her soon then. Now, let's see the others. Captain Steven Rogers, perfectly clean history, as to be expected. Tony Stark-"
"Look at this. A missile from Stark industries hit a home and killed the parents. The twins were stuck under the rubble for days until they were freed. They're currently on the run. Tony turned two people into orphans."
"Now that is fascinating," he smirked.
I rolled my eyes. "I knew there was a reason why I hated him. People born rich grow up arrogant and cruel because they think they're the best, better than everyone else. Also, is there any particular reason you've saved Dr. Banner for last?"
"Oh, he's only my favorite." I laughed. "He's Dr. Frankenstein and Frankenstein's monster all wrapped up in one. Isn't that exciting?"
I laughed again. "Sure, I guess. I just always get upset when I see him in his other form. It makes me sad because I know he hates it. He was the doctor for my mom when she had cancer and when she died he had to fight so much harder not to change. He even fled to some other country so he could get away from the memory of her."
He watched me while I was talking then, he looked up at the video of Dr. Banner in his Hulk form.
"Let's not hurt him anymore," he suggested and I grinned.
"We'll make a saint out of you yet."
