I woke up the next morning feeling so much better. Loki was right, sleeping and eating don't just keep me alive they keep me sane as well.
I walked down the stairs and got breakfast.
I started watching Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix when I heard the sound of something flying into the tower.
I put my bowl of cereal down and wandered out to see what it was when I saw Tony, getting out of his Iron Man suit and looking mad as hell.
"Loki!" I called. Tony started marching closer. "LOKI!" I started backing away and Loki raced down the stairs and stepped between Tony and I.
"What the hell are you two doing in my house? Get out!"
"How did you even know we were here?!" I exclaimed.
"Jarvis alerted me."
"Jarvis!"
"I am sorry Miss, but it is my job to inform Mister Stark of any threats, and you were a threat to his privacy."
"I thought we had something good going here," I muttered.
"Why are you so upset? It's not like you were using it," Loki smirked and I groaned. Now, was not the time to be witty.
Tony punched Loki in the nose. Loki doubled over and I grabbed the gun from the living room and pointed it at Tony.
"Right! You're going to fly back to your pretty little avengers and tell them everything's just peachy over here, or tell them it's all gone to hell. I don't really care, but either way, you're going to leave. You have another home you can go to, and it's not like we're going to be here forever. I promise we'll stop going through your annoying selfies with Pepper if you leave right now."
"What happens if I refuse?"
"I blow your head off," I told him simply.
"Now, why would you do that?"
"You punched the guy I like and he's kind of been keeping me safe for a while so I'd like to make sure he's safe too, and his safety depends on you leaving."
"I don't believe for a second that you'd actually shoot me."
"Oh, really?" I aimed the gun down and shot his foot. "Do you believe it now?"
He screamed and clutched his foot. "OW! What the hell?!"
"Oh, relax I'm sure your suit can patch you up and make you all pretty again, and if not you have a bunch of people who are really good at helping with bullet wounds BACK AT AVENGERS HEADQUARTERS!"
He nodded and raised his hands in surrender. "Okay, okay, I get it."
"Took you long enough," I rolled my eyes.
He got his suit on and flew out.
I turned to Loki and dropped the gun. "That felt good," I sighed.
Then, I noticed he was still bleeding.
"Shit," I whispered and knelt down next to him. "Look up."
He did as I told him and I got a better look at his nose.
"It's broken. Stay right here."
"Where else would I go?! I have a broken nose!" He yelled.
"Must you always fight back?!" I exclaimed, shaking my head with a smile.
I darted up the steps and ran to the nearest bathroom, hunting for a first aid kit.
I grabbed gauze out of it and a small towel and darted back down the stairs.
I knelt down beside Loki and handed him the towel.
"Bite down on this."
He gave me a confused look.
"I have to put your nose back into position and it's going to hurt."
His eyes widened and he started to put the towel down. I rolled my eyes and forced the towel into his mouth.
"It's either this or you can deal with difficulties breathing from now on. Trust me, this is the easier option. Tilt your head back."
I placed two fingers on either side of his nose and took a deep breath. Then, I straightened his nose. He screamed into the towel and I chuckled.
"I told you it would hurt," I said as I grabbed the gauze and packed his nostrils with it to stop the bleeding. "Keep that in your nose, it's going to stop the bleeding. You can take the towel out of your mouth now. I'm going to get some ice to bring down the swelling."
I walked into the kitchen and he followed me.
"How do you know to do all of this?"
"I grew up with Avery as my best friend. Trust me, I've dealt with enough broken bones. Between her and I, we've probably broken all the bones in a human body. Twice."
I started putting a bunch of ice into a bag.
"Sounds like an interesting childhood," he smirked.
"Interesting doesn't even begin to cover it. We got in fights almost every month when we were kids and always climbed things we knew we shouldn't. Trees, buildings, the school gym, you name it. We were always terrified that our parents would find out about the fights and the climbs so we treated each other's wounds. Even though, looking back on it now, our parents probably knew everything and just really wanted the two of us to become doctors."
"Why didn't you?" Loki asked as I placed the bag of ice on his nose.
"I don't know," I shrugged. "It just never felt like me. I was never that dedicated to anything, especially not spending years in school for something that people barely notice me for. Doctors treated like crap all too often. People just bark orders at them on how they should treat their loved ones, they don't really respect them unless there's a disaster. Then they're heroes, but they're not heroes in everyday life unless it's being portrayed on a TV screen." I sighed. "Anyway, I think the swelling is starting to go down." I peered under the bag.
Loki touched his nose tentatively and smiled.
"Keep the gauze in for about another hour or so, and then check and see if you're still bleeding. If you are, let me know, and I'll find another gauze. If you aren't, just throw the gauze away and thank your local makeshift doctor." I took a bow.
He laughed. "Thank you, Doctor Vaughan."
"You are very welcome."
After that, we spent the rest of the day watching random things on TV and getting snacks whenever possible. Loki was very happy that I was eating so much.
He only needed the gauze replaced once, and the rest of the day was spent just relaxing.
When the day was over, Loki walked me to my room and read to me as I drifted off to sleep.
