When I got to my house all the Shepard gang was there. They were working out or running around shouting and screaming. Angela was sitting on the couch reading a book. Couldn't tell which one it was but she seem too interested in it to notice what was going on around the house.
"Alright meeting in the living room, let's go!" Timothy yells all the way from the kitchen as he walks in the living room noticing me standing in front of the door.
"Hey Lola, I see you're here with us."
"Yeah, I went to visit Johnny and Dal. Johnny told me you came by. Dallas to, said that you were rubbing it in about the rumble." I state the obvious.
"Oh well, anyway you can walk with us to the rumble after that I want you straight home and lock them doors with Angela. Understood?" Tim points at us. Angela nods her head.
"You come home from that rumble tonight alive. Understood?" I snap back but with a smile.
"Sure thing." He smirks messing up my hair. I push him away and try to fix it back up. All the Shepard gang was sitting either on the floor or on the couch. Tim stood right in front of them as I stood right next to him. Angela stands up putting her book on the the coffee table stands up on the other side of Tim.
"No weapons. We fight for greasers. We fight against the socs. Skin to skin, so any kind of weapon or stuff you got on you leave it here."
Tim surveys the gang as they nod their heads. Chris stand up emptying his pockets. He pulls out 3 switchblades, a busted cap, a lighter, two packs of cancer sticks and a metal pipe. All the other boys stand up pulling out switch blades and cancer sticks with their lighters. But I had to say I was very nervous that Chris pulled out a metal pipe. We don't normally carry them around but if we see one on the ground and we're getting ready to be jumped, we'll use it.
"We ready?" Tim claps his hands together. I reach down in his pocket and pulled out a switchblade.
"Not all of us are ready are we?" I twirl the switch in my hand and smirk at him. He groaned loudly as he empties his pockets. Five different switchblades came out.
"Okay I think we're good. Alright, let's head to vacant lot, ready?" Tim shouts.
"Yeah!" Everybody responded including myself. We all run out of the house slamming the front door shut. All of the boys pull on their meanest look. Making them look tough as they dig their thumbs in their pockets and grin dangerously. Out of all of the gags on the east side I'd say Shepard's gang was the worst. Not because it's my family and I'm a part of it but if you took a good look at all of the gangs you would obviously state that Shepard's was the toughest. The ones that held strict rules, had a leader and if anyone would mess up in the gang, do the wrong thing, Tim have you dead in seconds.
We get to the lot and see that we're not the only ones there. The brumly boys were leaning against the old truck. Someone threw a lighter into the bonfire. Starting it up the flames grew and the smoke went up into the darkened sky. I got a bad feeling about tonight. Hopefully it's not as bad as I think it is. Maybe it's just anxiety and over thinking things.
Everyone goes up and shakes hands with the brumly boys. Their leader shakes hands with Tim. He turns to me as I shake hands with him. I remember him earlier in the day when Ponyboy went to go talk to that curly brown haired Soc as two-bit was making jokes about the socs pants and gorilla cookies.
"Evening boys." I say.
Angela stands out in the open observing the scenery. She wasn't a big fan of vacant lot. Said it was too sketchy of a place to be. She looked a bit on edge. I walked over to her and pulled her to the truck where the brumly boys walk away from. They know me too well. We sit on the hood of the truck. Waiting for a sign that the socs were coming. I could hear the Curtis brothers, with two-bit and Steve yelling about being hoods and that they were going to stomp the socs heads in. Made me laugh a little. They come walking in and shake hands with our gang and brumly boys. They looked too prepared for what's going to happen tonight. Angela stares off at Ponyboy in a weird creepy way. Always knew she had a crush on him I told her that he wasn't into relationships. She'd always curse me out right after I tell her that. She'll understand one of these days that he's not into her. Two-bit walks over to me with Ponyboy.
"Feeling better?" Two-bit pats my arm. Angela looks at me sternly.
"You sick?" Her eyes went wide.
"Why does everyone keep asking that? I'm fine. Do I look sick?" I ask angrily. I don't want to keep being pressured about it. They look at me taken back.
"No I'm not feeling so great. In fact I feel like I'm going to throw up in two seconds but that's not going to happen." I smirk at them. Some sickness isn't going to make me look weak.
"Y'all staying for the rumble?" Pony ask. Angela laughs and walks over to chris.
"Shoot kid, if Tim lets me fight I wouldn't have brought Angela here. She can't fight worth shit." I laughed.
All of a sudden car horns were honking toward us. Corvettes were pulling up in front of vacant lot as we all stood our ground. Tim walks over to me.
"Y'all get going. Lock the doors." Tim tells me sternly and a whisper.
"Be safe." I whisper. All these gangs were coming up into the lot, it ruined his rep if he was acting soft and hug me or anything. I nod my head and walk over to Angela grabbing her arm.
"Time to go." I dragged her out of the lot. We didn't look back, we kept walking toward the house. As I saw a figure running toward us.
"What is that?" Angela pulls my arm off her and flicks her switch out.
As the figure comes closer. I come to realize it was Dallas Winston. What the hell is he doing out of the hospital he's supposed to stay there overnight. He had no shirt on but his jacket and a pair of jeans. I run up to him and hug him.
"The hell are you doing out of the hospital?" I shout.
"I ain't missing the rumble. Remember two-bits switch he handed me? I persuaded the doc and nurses to let me go." He smirks.
"Dal." I sighed angrily. This is the one Rumble I didn't want him involved in. It was dangerous but I also knew he was too. Just like Tim was. I let go of him and look down at the ground as Angela folds her switch back and puts it away.
"You be careful, come see me when its over." I say. Dally grabs my face and kisses it softly.
"Sorry for earlier. I will, we are going to win and then we are heading to see Johnny." He pulls away. I nod my head and look down the street. There was a corvette coming this way.
"Better get going." He says as he kisses my lips and takes off running to the lot.
"Lets go Angela." She reaches out for my hand as I grab it. We take off running to the house again and make it.
"Lock the windows, I'll lock the doors." I tell her as she runs up stairs. As much as I knew how prepared we were for the rumble, we were never prepared for what was going to happen afterward. No one could have been.
