I was interrupted in my train of thoughts were interrupted by Dally being Dally.
"How was the cooler Pepsi Cola?" Dally teased.
"Well you should know." Soda shrugged his shoulders and grinned dangerously.
"Yeah. Good ol days." Dally smirked.
"Yeah, I can see why you like going there so much." Soda snapped.
"Someone has gotten too cocky, you pick that stuff up from there." Dally pointed at Soda.
He gave me the look. I've seen that grin before, Soda told be to stay away from Dally when he grins like that. I tighten my grip around Soda.
"You better watch your self and him. People like that can't control their anger, especially when they just got out. The cooler changes you." He winked.
"Dally, come on man." Johnny sucked his teeth looking at Dallas. Johnny looked up Dallas as a role model. He worshipped the land he walked on. I could never figure out why.
While Darry suggested he leaved I gave him a long stare. Dally walked out the door with Johnny trailing behind. Before Dallas left the porch he turned around. He blew me a kiss and took off. Soda saw it and was about to run after him to beat the tar out of him. I grabbed him before he left my side.
"He's not worth it." I whispered.
"But you are." He said so evenly with his velvet voice.
"Thanks, but I don't need anyone fighting. This party is for you. So let's enjoy it, ok?" I smile up at him.
"Fine." He sighs.
"Typical Dallas." Kathy mutters.
"Lets eat some cake everyone." Darry tries to change the subject.
Everyone acted like nothing happened for the rest of the party, but Soda stayed quiet. I had never seen him like this before. He is always happy going Sodapop, but right now he seems like he is a whole different person. It scared me because, I like the old Soda not the one here in this room. All we did for the rest of the party was the cake, watch some TV, and talk about the new good socs and what's going on with everyone.
Ponyboy getting straight A's, Darry getting paid full time and two-bit getting fired. That child can't keep a job to save his life. Johnny got a library card with Pony. Kathy works at the movies, Dally being Dally, Tim got a job at the grocery store, and Curly hasn't gotten jailed for a month. He is being good now that he has to talk to his parole officer every week. After we all talked people were getting ready to leave. Soda, Kathy, two-bit and I walked down street, planning out what we are doing tomorrow.
"Hey Lola, I get off work tomorrow at noon wanna see a flick?"
"Sure, you boy's wanna come?"
"Can't got to watch pony and Johnny." Two-bit sighs.
"I gotta work, but you can come over after the movie if you want." Soda grins.
"Alright, come by near noon and if you come earlier you can sneak in one of the movies while waitin on me." Kathy giggled.
Two-bit was walking Kathy home and her house went the separate ways so we said our byes and gave out hugs. Soda walked me home even though he could get caught being with me, not that he cares what Tim thinks. It's nice, we hold her hands and kick rocks in the middle of the road. We stopped in front of my house. Soda takes both my hands in his.
"Hey, what Dally said back there. I haven't changed. I'm still me." He says softly.
"I know that. You are not the type to get angry quickly. Dally is just trying to scare me." I roll my eyes.
"Be careful tomorrow. Alright?"
"Always am. Don't worry, Kathy carries a switch with her everywhere she goes."
"I know but still."
I had to shut him up with a kiss, he was never this protective with anyone else other than Ponyboy. He doesn't need to worry. I am a shepherd.
"Shh, you talk too much." I whisper in his ear. Kissing him on the check and taking a step back. I wanted more but someone would show up at some point.
"I have to go, they will come looking for me." I grumbled.
"I love you."
"I love you too."
Curly came out on the porch but he was too late. Soda was down the street and you couldn't see him because it was dark and I was coming up the steps onto the porch. I go inside with Curly trailing behind me. Dropping my bags on the sofa and sitting in the armchair. He sits on the sofa far away staring at me.
"Where is Tim and Angela at?" I quiz.
"Tim's at work and Angela said she found a job." He says coldly.
"You know where she said?"
"She said mind my own business."
"Of course." I say as I pick at my nails.
"Lola, do you love Soda?" Curly scotches closer to me.
"Did Tim put you up to this." He knew it was more of a statement then a question.
"Ok, ok you got me." He raises his hands above his head.
"Yes I do."
"Yes you do what? That you got me or that you love him?"
"Both so you can tell Timothy to shove it."
To make matters worse Tim walks in. Joy to the world. So I walked up into my room, I'm done for the day. It was too long and too much drama. I didn't even bother to fix something to eat for dinner. I was so tired that I don't think that I dream last night.
