Departure

The day arrived. Renae and her family were moving over to another block.
A block that was more than a hundred yards away.
Meeting again was not impossible but it was very hard.
She knew they weren't coming back often.
She knew she was about to leave a place that had half of her heart in it.
It wasn't tough for her, it was more than heartbreaking.
Each one of her friends visited her on the day last day.
They talked about the days they spent together, talking about every memory they could recollect.
Memories were a joy but that time all Renae felt was a sting in her heart. She knew she wouldn't be a part of their memory they made every single day and that for her was what hurt the most.
She spent seventeen years of her life in that neighbourhood. The people were her family. They were a part of her childhood. They saw everything and she was the happiest when they were around.
Everyone was sad too but no one knew what was going through inside her. What she felt.
Renae who never shed a tear in front of anyone but Marcus had tears rolled down her cheeks that didn't seemed to stop.
Her friends were surprised but now they knew how much pain she was in. How much she loved the place, how much she loved them and just how much she didn't want to leave.
They were all in tears and no one said a word.
"The truck is ready Renae, let's go." Her mother told her.
"Yeah, mum I'll be there in a minute."
"Goodbyes aren't allowed because we are visiting you soon, Renae." Paul said.
Paul hugged her and the rest of the gang followed.
What surprised Renae was how Marcus stood there, smiling at her saying this won't be the end of memories and they'd still meet and hang out very often, but seventeen years of friendship wasn't worth it for Marcus to shed a single tear. Of course, guys don't cry but this case was different and reasonable but till the second she got inside the car, Marcus laughed and made a joke out of Renae.
Maybe he wanted to make her laugh instead of cry. Maybe because if he cried in front of her, she would have broken  down.
Renae thought of that possibility too and her assumption on that was the only thing that kept her heart from breaking. That didn't destroy her.
No one knew how Marcus actually felt that day because after that day, Marcus wasn't seen talking with any of the girls in the neighbourhood. He didn't play games anymore but he went out a lot.
Where he went to and what he did, nobody knows and I guess no one will ever know.
Their departure was the only memory that remained forever.
Things didn't change, it just brought about a new birth for the both of them.
