After all of them graduated from tenth grade, they all went about their own ways pursuing education in different fields.
Forget about missing each other, they didn't even barely meet up anymore.
Their bond didn't break apart or anything, just that they entered the, 'oh no! Time to be an adult' phase. In two years they'd be in college.
It was sad to watch maybe very sad because the nine of them were the only ones watching it and none of them said a thing but quietly watched with an ache on their hearts.
Renae and Marcus were still neighbours but they became neighbours that never visited each other anymore. The only people she talked to were, Zack and Paul. Those were Marcus' two elder brothers. The two of them loved Renae like family. Well of course, who wouldn't? When one had no younger sister at home.
Everyone wanted a cute younger sister at home to call them 'elder brother' right?
(BTW, Renae wasn't cute)
They didn't cared about Renae and Marcus' relationship. They were grown ups already graduated from college, who thought everything was normal and okay.
Renae, why did she stop going over for games and movies?
Well, when they were all still in grade ten something dynamic happened.
Marcus told Renae that his parents had a bad impression of her and when she asked the reason why, here is what he said,
"Actually, the other night while dad was coming home from work he saw a couple making out in the corner of the street. You know how my dad is, he flashed them on their faces with his flash light. The girl however, had short hair like you and he thought it was you and told mom about it and you know what happened after that eh?"
"Obviously, it wasn't me. I'm not a girl who'd be so reckless right? You know it wasn't me so why didn't you stand up for me?" Renae replied to Marcus.
"Mom and dad thinks there is something going on between us too, if I said something in your defence they'd think the otherwise so I kept quiet." Marcus answered.
Renae remained silent.
This wasn't just the reason why Renae stopped going over. She went a couple of times after what Marcus told had happened but the treatment from his parents was not so very nice. They didn't even talked with her and if they did, it seemed like they didn't even wanted her there.
What hurt Renae the most was not their treatment towards her but why Marcus just to protect his image in front of his parents didn't stand up for the truth.
God damn this society. Was she the only one with a short hair cut in the world? Just because a boy and a girl were close they were in a relationship? Come on people! They grew up together and knew each other for their whole lives, of course they'd be dead close.
"They thought so low of me. Didn't care to ask me if it was me? I know they are quite strict about it but just how shitty and unreasonable can society get?" This were her constant thoughts.
