Alice
Only later did Alice get the whole story of what happened, Mason and James had to fill her in. Apparently after Rixton got shot, Mason shot the man with the burn. He only hit the man in the shoulder, which allowed the man to run off with the other two survivors. While James was trying to stop Rixton's bleeding, Jackson ran to get the doctor. Luckily the doctor's office was only a few blocks from them and the doctor was in. Mason, Jackson, and the doctor moved Rixton to the doctor's office. James stayed behind with Alice who was on the verge of hysteria. She would have been embarrassed, that is if she could remember it. All she could remember was Rixton's blood staining the street scarlet red. The thought makes her want to vomit.
Now Alice sits in a hard plastic chair in the lobby of the doctor's office. Mason sits beside her, he leans forward, elbows resting on his knees. James paces the floor in front of them. His shirt is covered in blood and his hair is wet with sweat. Jackson sits across the room, holding an ice pack to his head. Apparently when he had gone to find one of the snipers he got hit in the head with a door. Rixton's mom and sister sit a few seats away from Jackson. They had gotten to the doctor's office half an hour ago and now sit talking quietly to each other.
No one talks. The only sound is James's footsteps on the tile floors. They've been in the doctor's office for over an hour and there is still no news of Rixton. Alice can't take much more waiting, or the silence. She stands up and walks over to Jackson.
"How's your head?" She asks sitting in the seat next to Jackson.
"It's actually starting to go numb from the ice, or the pain meds." Jackson says in his usual positive attitude.
Alice smiles. It feels good to smile after so much crying.
"How are you doing?" Jackson asks sounding more serious this time.
Alice looks at her hands and her smile fades. "I think I'll be better once we find out how Rixton's doing."
As if on cue Dr. Harley walks into the room. Alice stands up abruptly. James stops pacing and rushes up to the doctor.
"How is he? Is he alive? He better be alive. If he's dead, I will bring him back to life and kill him myself. Why aren't you saying anything?" James demands in a rush.
"James. Give Dr. Harley a chance to talk." Caroline says calmly. She and Amelia stand up and walk over to James and the doctor.
"Rixton is fine..." Dr. Harley starts.
"He's alive?" James asks cutting the doctor off.
Dr. Harley frowns at James. "Yes. He's alive. The bullet hit him in the side. It pierced his spleen and broke a rib. He lost a lot of blood, but he'll be fine."
"Is he awake? Can I go see him?" James asks quickly.
"He's asleep right now. You can all go back to the house, get some rest for yourself..." James opens his mouth to protest, but Dr. Harley raises a hand. "And I will call you as soon as he wakes up."
