Chapter 25:

(Harry's POV)

The stretching sensation grew throughout my body and in every bone and muscle. As I felt myself starting to stretch, a bright light grew brighter with what felt like minutes but were seconds until it not only gave me a headache, but it was also forcing my eyes to close in pain. What didn't feel like as long as it should have been, the expanding feeling came to a halt. I reluctantly opened my eyes unsure of what I was going to see until my eyes fell on to a surprise. It was an old village that was filled with thatched buildings and historical people walking idly by.

I took another step to balance myself, examining my body to see if anything had changed when I came through but everything looked normal to me. I looked down at myself to check to see I was missing a limb or worse when I noticed my black t-shirt and black jeans looked out of place. My thoughts were suddenly interrupted when a chipper woman came with a clipboard and pen to me.

"Hello my name is Ruth and welcome to the portal" She spoke with her monotone voice and her un-pleased smile. Her head was focused on the chart as she carried on writing and searching until I spoke.

"Thanks" I commented feeling unsure of my plan now. Her eyes looked up above her clipboard to look me up and down.

"Name and purpose?" She asked, her voice still unchanged and frankly a little rude.

"Uh. Henry Smith? I'm here to speak to the Dunson family." I thought of the top of my head. I didn't know whether the witches had heard my real name around and I couldn't alert Ellie's parents without actually knowing what I'm doing next.

"What is your real purpose?" She questioned rolling her eyes as she wrote something down.

"That is my real purpose." I argued confused.

"Look kid. I can't let you just waltz up to their manor without a real purpose. Do you know how many people want to see them? There is a long list and from the sounds of it Mr Smith you are not on it." She explained confusing me a little more.

"I'm Ellie Dunson's friend" I stated finding it a little difficult to say that.

"Well if you're a friend" She said sarcastically. Nothing was going to get past this woman. I never thought my biggest obstacle in getting Ellie back would be a woman with a clipboard.

"How do I get on this list then?" I asked getting agitated.

"You need to go to the manor and arrange something with the security." She answered, looking up from her board for a second to look behind me and then at her watch, completely uninterested in our conversation.

"And where is this manor?" I asked which resulted in a huff, another eye roll and then her turning to point as she explained.

"If you're a so called friend wouldn't you know where it is?" She asked.

"Just tell me where it is."  I said clearly getting annoyed.

"Follow that road right until the end , then turn right , then turn right again to the first exit and she's the house on the hill. Trust me kid, you'll see it" She replied.

"Thanks " I muttered before walking away as she resumed to her usual state.

"If you cause any trouble, you'll be right back through that portal you hear me?" She called after me but I couldn't be bothered to turn around.

"Loud and clear." I shouted back. I followed the directions until I got to the street where she lives on.

All the way to the house, I was thinking how I could pass the security and somehow talk to Ellie's parents and explain what had happened. I knew deep down her mother would help but her dad would need a lot more convincing. I reached the gate and decided to use my vampire speed and strength to get over the gate to avoid the 20 questions and strip search that looked like would happen if I continued at the entrance.

After jumping over, I stared at the house, observing that it was more modern than the others with a larger build and security around it. I could see how to Ellie this would look like a prison sentence, especially being stuck with her parents. It looked like it had more than 3 floors and was a Mediterranean style house for the rich with multiple balconies. I could see guards surrounding the doors but the sound of something sweeter and shocking caught my attention.

Her voice.

I had to be hearing things because this is impossible but I needed to make sure. I followed the voice and listened to the voice that broke my heart. I closed my eyes tightly hoping it wasn't just in my head.

"I need to be alone. And when I say alone I mean everyone leave." Her demanding voice sprang making me smile in hope. I followed the voice with no hesitation, climbing over the wall with my super speed and managed to stand even in my state of shock. I watched as the guards looked at each other before they left their post and went elsewhere. I saw her stand in the rain, her back faced in my direction until I spoke. She was soaking wet, still in my T-shirt but with some jeans on and barefoot. I could see she was shaken up and on edge.

"Ellie?" I asked hesitantly. Her figure swung around in surprise with a smile spread among her face as she ran up to me, embracing me tightly as she spoke. I took the first real deep breath since her death.

"Harry." Her voice muttered on my chest. I closed my eyes and held her tighter.
