Chapter 26:
(Ellie's POV)
I stood alone in the rain contemplating everything in my life. I couldn't believe a life like Tom's could be so easily wiped away from existence and yet mine wasn't. It's not fair. I knew me and Tom weren't on the best of terms and he did kill me, I would never wish death on anyone. He didn't deserve it. He was fed false pretences his whole life and he was too innocent to know any different.
I took a look around me to see the three guards watching me, their faces growing in concern as they looked at each other not knowing what to do. I rolled my eyes and looked towards their direction before I spoke.
"I need to be alone. And when I say alone I mean everyone leave." I demanded needing some space. They looked at each other in hesitation before reluctantly following my instructions. It took what felt like too long to leave but once they left I exhaled deeply feeling the release of being constantly watched.
"Ellie?" Harry's voice called from behind me forcing my to turn around in surprise. I couldn't help but smile when I saw him.
"Harry." I spoke into his clothes feeling the relief of him being here after what had happened with Tom and being back in this place.
"You're alive?" He muttered into my hair. It was crazy to think this little time apart felt like it was too long, and knowing that he thought I was dead made me feel a guilt I couldn't describe.
"I'm alive" I replied onto his chest taking in his musky scent of pure bliss.
"You're not dead" He uttered kissing into my hair with his hands placed strategically on my cheeks to hold me in the moment. I pull my head away and kiss him to get him out of his shock. His lips were urgent and tantalising but I felt him pull away before the moment became a blur to both of us.
"You're not dead" He repeats, resting our foreheads together.
"I'm here" I replied which tightened his grip of me in reassurance.
"I thought I lost you again" He began to explain. My heart was melting at how sweet he sounded and how wounded he was about my death, I can't and won't imagine how he had been feeling for the past 45 years of not knowing.
"I can see nothing can keep you too apart." My mother spoke from behind me. I flew around in shock not knowing what to do or say. She had caught us. How could we have been so careless? She made her way towards us as Harry's arm slid around my waist tightly whilst we both watch her approach.
"Mrs Dunson." Harry commented taking charge. He tried to stand in front of me as if he was protecting me from her, but he didn't know he was putting himself as an easy target.
"You need to leave." She declared in a tone that only meant trouble.
"He's not going anywhere." I pointed out standing in front of him in defence.
"Ellie don't you dare over ride my judgement." She started telling, but even she knew it wasn't going to work on me anymore.
"I'm not going anywhere." He stated making a point.
"How did you find us here?" She asked, crossing her arms taking a few more steps towards us.
"Don't answer that." I interrupted.
"He's only going to break your heart. You won't be able to protect him and he certainly can't protect you." She stated. Harry kept quiet and I could see him in the corner of my eye looking at me.
"If you left her alone, you would be protecting her." She carried on. I knew Harry would have taken that to heart.
"Helen?" I heard my Dad shout from across the house. I know that if my mother were to call on my dad, this would change everything, everything would turn from bad to worse. He was the last person that needed to be involved in this altercation.
"I'm not leaving him." I said, my voice breaking knowing that at any minute she could bring the game changer into the conversation and then that would be that, she would have won.
"Run." She spoke as she turned her head away. She looked ashamed and appalled by what she had said but I could see some sort of hope I hadn't seen in a long time. The mother I loved was peaking her head into the scene and it was relieving to know that side of her was inside of her still.
"What?" I asked clarifying what I was hearing and seeing.
"Helen?" My dad's voice boomed even louder. Harry's grip tightened on me in worry as he was thinking the same thing.
"Take her away. Before I do something I will regret." Her sudden outburst taking me and Harry back but she didn't have to tell us again. He took a hold of my hand and interlocked it together.
"Mum?" I mentioned gaining her attention even with her head turned.
"Coming!" She shouted back to my dad before turning back inside.
"Thank you." I whispered before Harry vampire sped us away.
