"Happy Birthday to me," the boy muttered underneath his breath, rubbing his arm that had just gotten slammed against the cold stone wall of his prison, Hades castle in the underworld. He had just turned sixteen, and his father had celebrated by slamming him into the wall and calling him a disappointment.

Standing from the icy floor, he winced in a slight stab of pain to his rib. Apparently he had hit the wall harder than he originally believed. Shakily walking, he made his way towards his bedroom.

After closing the door, the bruised teenager grabbed the satchel he had in his closet, shoving in a change of clothes, the small stash of drachmas he'd been able to acquire over his sixteen years of torturous life. He also stashed in a delicate golden chalice inside his bundle of clothing, which consisted of the normal attire, a chitan and himation.

Looking around his small room, not what you would expect for an heir to the underworld, the only other thing he grabbed was the simple seven inch knife his mother had given him, or who he had guessed was his mother. This boy was a pure child, made from the love of Gods, but Hades, his father, had never told him who had been his mother.

He needed to get out of this place, and that was what he planned to do, Hades had beat him up too many times for him to long to stay here any longer. Slowly, he opened the door of his room, checking to make sure no one was around, he bolted towards the western exit. He knew his way around the castle, and exactly how to get out, although he had never been outside the walls that surrounded the castle for more than the five seconds it took Hades to carry his ass back into the castle.

Moving as quick as possible, he reached the western exit, and looked back once, before shaking his head in disappointment. Why would he care if he stayed? Hades wouldn't miss him, and neither would Persephone. It wasn't worth the pain to stay.

Hopefully the human--or at least, that's what they were supposedly called--world was a better place than this. Living a sheltered life in the castle did make it hard to really know what anything was like in any other place other than that cold prison.

Taking his first step outside the castle wall without worrying about his father, Alektos began his run towards freedom.

A/N: I dunno how consistently I'll update this, but I do like the plot so hopefully I'll be good at keeping it up to date.

Also, please comment, and let me know what you think of the story. It's not fully thought out yet, and I wanna know if there's any plot ideas you guys have.

I know this first chapter is pretty short, but hopefully the rest will proceed to get longer.

Thanks for reading. ^-^
