Alex stared out the replaced window of the apartment. He was tired. The rest of them were tired. They weren't achieving anything by sitting in the apartment, waiting for something to happen.

"Alex, you up for a game of Euchre?" Blaise asked from his spot at the table. Gwyn and Kayne were sitting already. They just needed a fourth player.

It is amazing how many games Alex learned over the span of a week. Without the card games his life would be a lot more boring.

"Yeah, I'll play," Alex stepped away from his spot at the window, sitting across from Gwyn at the table. Looks like they were partners. Gwyn started to shuffle the small deck that contained nine and up cards, including aces.

"We've missed so much school," Ava said, cuddled up to Chance on the couch.

"Do you really miss it?" He asked, resting his cheek against the top of her head.

"No, but I don't understand why we're all kept up here, not going out."

"Being in public isn't a good plan," Chance sighed.

"For you."

"I don't want you getting hurt."

Ava sighed, closing her eyes to doze. Not like there was anything else to do.

"Pie is done," Aurora called from within the kitchen, placing it on the counter. She was always making cakes and cookies and other baked goods. Every time one got finished, she made a new one. Always different than the one before.

"Cut me a slice, will you?" Alex called from the table, "Pick it up," he ordered to Gwyn, forcing his partner to pick up the ace of spades. Their opponents sighed, losing 6 to 2.

"Sure," Aurora cut him a medium sized piece and carried it over. It was a habit, Aurora made something, Alex always took the first slice.

The door opened, and Felix walked in, "Hey guys," he said over the rustle of the bags he carried, Arete was behind him.

"Welcome back," Gwyn called out, placing down the ace Alex had given him, taking the trick.

"Thanks," Felix smiled as he placed the bags on the counter near the cake, then walking over to watch the game, "Who's call?"

"They called spades," Blaise sighed. Felix glanced down at Blaise's hand, and had to put a hand on his mouth from laughing.

"What is this?" Alex asked after swallowing a bite, it was delicious. Mostly sweet with a slight twinge of sour.

"Raspberry strawberry pie," Aurora smiled, half watching the game. They had all learned to play Euchre within the past week, as it helped lessen the boredom.

Alex pulled her gently down into a kiss, smiling at her. She was the perfect cook.

"Dude, your go," Kayne said.

Alex returned to the game after his distraction, playing down the jack of clubs and taking the trick.

"Damn, we're losing so bad," Blaise sighed. Felix was about to say something to comfort him, but Arete spoke before he could.

"Well, at least its not a game of life or death," she sighed, flopping down on the recliner, "Is there nothing to do but games and watch T.V? There's gotta be more to life than this."

"How are you getting the money for all the supplies?" Chance asked from beneath the sleeping Ava.

"I'm still working," Felix shrugged, "Every once in a while at least. I had a lot of PTO worked up, so I'm using that."
