Alex sat and watched as Ava got up, but continued lying in his arms. She glowed a light blueish color.
"Ava, I'm.." Alex started but she shushed him.
"It's alright. Could have been worse."
"You're stuck in Hell, literally. How does it get worse?" Blaise asked.
Ava chuckled, "I dunno. I don't have to worry about death now, right?"
"How are you taking this so well? We legit let you die," Felix fell to his knees, head hanging.
"Well, I kinda expected it."
"WHAT?!" Alex shouted, tears still streaming as he looked at her.
"Well, a thing happened awhile ago, and I kinda just, started expecting it ever since," Ava stared right at Alex as she spoke. The dream. Alex looked away from her.
She glanced around, "Something feels weird, I'm gonna go. I'll see if I can find anything for you."
They watched as she took off running, right in the direction that Eligos had come from.
"Is she seriously that chill about dying?" Arete asked, confused. The tears that had fallen on her face were starting to dry.
"Doubtful. She probably didn't want us to see her break down," Gwyn said, wrapping Kayne's head in some ripped fabric.
Alex felt a chill run up his spine. It was like someone was watching them, it was stronger than normal, "Guys, we should go."
They nodded, "Who's carrying Kayne?" Gwyn asked.
"We'll take turns carrying him. I'll start," Alex said, carefully lifting Kayne onto his back, leaving both their packs on the ground. Gwyn grabbed them as they began walking.
The pace they had was quite a bit slower than when they originally started. Before, they only had Chance's death looming over them, now they had Ava too. Plus, carrying Kayne did make it quite a bit harder to move at a quicker speed.
~~~Time Skip: A couple hours later~~~
"Hey, I think we should set up a camp for awhile, let everyone rest up a bit before continuing on," Felix suggested from the leading spot. Alex was right on his tail, as the two of them had been talking.
"I agree, but first we gotta find a safe spot," Gwyn replied, holding up the back.
Alex looked around, searching for anything that would be a good hiding spot. A crevice in the ground, or if they were lucky a cave. The best he spotted was a group of boulders that were rather close together.
"You see anywhere better than that?" Alex asked Felix, gesturing to the spot he had found.
Felix scanned, then shook his head, "That's probably our best bet."
The small group walked over, Alex made sure everyone went in before he did. He eyed Aurora as she walked past. It had been awhile since they'd talked, or really contacted each other one on one at all.
"Hey," he said, gently grabbing her elbow, then pulling her out of the weighed down Blaise and the Gwyn.
"Hey," Aurora smiled, glad he finally wanted to talk to her.
"You doing alright, with... all this?"
She looked at the ground, "I'm doing as good as I can be."
Alex looked inside, "Hey guys, I'm gonna leave the packs here, and me and Aurora are gonna do a perimeter check, alright?"
"Yeah, alright. Does she wanna borrow the sword we got from that one demon?" Gwyn replied, lifting the short sword that had been impaled into Ava.
