"Yo, Alex, I sold your drachma-" Gwyn called out as he quick-walked towards Alex.
Alex swung his head up, "You what???"
"I traded your drachma for $800 dollars. The pawn people brought in a historian or whatever to check if it real, and it totally was. They were happy to have it in their collection," Gwyn smiled, producing a wad of cash from his pocket.
Alex stared at the light paper things Gwyn had called cash, that was all he got for one drachma? "Is eight hundred a lot?" Alex asked.
Gwyn laughed a bit, "Dude, for a high schooler, $800 is a lot. It's enough to get all those clothes and plus some."
Alex looked at his cart with the clothes and wolf before looking back at Gwyn, "You want something, since you got me that much for the drachma."
Gwyn shook his head, handing the money to Alex, who shoved it into his shorts pocket, "Nah dude, you can keep it. Spend it when you need, oh crap."
"What?" Alex quickly scanned around, looking to see if there was a physical problem.
"Calm down," Gwyn said, pointing to the fists Alex had lifted, "I was just gonna say, I told my, uh, friend, that I was gonna be home right after school for some game time."
"Oh, um we just gotta check out, then we can leave, right?"
"Yeah, we just gotta hurry, go do the self check out," Gwyn ordered, pointing at a machine that earned a look of confusion from Alex.
"Just, come here, I'll show you," Gwyn said as he pushed the cart next to the machine, taking out the pants and running each through the scanner, a 'beep' telling the boys that it had been marked.
After everything had been scanned, the bill came up to $290. Alex pulled the money from his pocket. A couple of the other people who were checking out glanced at the amount of cash Alex held within his hands, he counted out two hundred and handed it to Gwyn to start paying with as he got the last ninety. The bills were labeled in 10, 20, 50, and a couple hundreds. Alex had handed Gwyn 2 of the 5 hundreds, then took out 4 twenties and a ten, giving it the other boy, who shoved it into the slot below the scanner.
"C'mon, cmon cmon," Gwyn mumbled underneath his breath, taking the bags from the side and handing them to Alex. He took a piece of paper that came out of the machine before walking towards the exit.
"Who's your friend? Is it bad to be late for 'gaming'?" Alex asked, catching up to Gwyn's quick pace.
"He.....won't be happy." Gwyn explained very unhelpfully, waving down a yellow car.
"Take us to Pear Blossom Apartments please," Gwyn said to the man driving the car, Alex closed the door behind him, placing the bags between the two boys. The driver glanced at the two boys before nodding at his orders.
"We'll be there in ten minutes boys," he said, the vehicle lurching forward.
Gwyn sat, staring out the window, tapping his foot against the floor. Alex followed suit with staring out the window. He watched as they zoomed by people, all dressed differently. One man they passed was banging sticks against metal cylinders. Alex stared at the crowd and the man. It was such a weird sight.
Alex zoned out after that, everything blurring by in shapeless color. Finally, the car stopped and Gwyn climbed out, leaving Alex with the bags, he began to step out when the driver stopped him, saying "That'll be 14.89 please."
Alex handed him a twenty, the last one, and in return, he got a five, a one, and a couple odd looking coins that were definitely not drachmas. Alex shrugged as he put the coins in his pocket, running with the bags to catch up with Gwyn, who was walking up the stairs on the outside of the building in front of him.
