Once, the world was full of light. Now, around Alex was darkness. The muffled splashes of his friends in the water echoed into his ears. Eyes closed, he sank further into the depths of the river. Something thin passed over his foot, causing his eyes too burn slightly at the touch of the water. Quickly, they adjusted, as he looked around the bottom of the river, he saw darkness. Looking up, he saw the broken rays of sunlight piercing into the water.
He kicked off the bottom of the river, going back up towards the surface, to join his friends in whatever fun they had begun. His head barely broke past the water, allowing a quick breath before the feeling of something wrapping around his leg pulled him back into the murky waters. He turned to see some odd tentacle, similar to one of an octopus.
Air left his lungs fast as he tried to remove himself from the grasp of the demonic animal. Pulling at the tentacle wrapped around his leg, Alex tried and tried, slowly but surely loosing the air in his lungs. He was running out of time. Very fast.
A few bubbles left Alex's mouth, his air supply was gone, and soon, water would rush in and fill his lungs. A voice spoke into his mind, "Remember, son of Hades, you are not all powerful. Here, you are easily killed as a mortal. Don't anger your father."
With that, the tentacle let go, and Alex floated towards the surface, his eyes beginning to glaze over.
"He's over here!" "Hurry!" "Get him to land!"
Hands grabbed Alex's limbs, then he hit solid ground. Two hands, one atop the other pressed on his chest. "One, two, three, four," the boy counted as he gave Alex CPR.
The others all watched as Blaise kept at his work, not a smile in existence. Kayne looked out into the waters, trying to see if the creature that had caught him was still out there.
"One, two, three, four."
Alex's head lolled to the side. Still, his breath was not in existence.
Looking about, Alex spotted the bright light everyone spoke about way above his head. He smiled as he fell further from the place considered to be heaven. There was no surprise that he wasn't going to the upper floor.
He landed on his feet and raised his head, meeting the cold black eyes of his father.
"Hello son, I thought the next time I'd see you was when you returned willingly to the underworld."
"I didn't plan on returning to you, Father."
Hades laughed, then shook his head, "Son, you are a fool. Do you really think you're dying right now?"
"It seems so?" Alektos raised an eyebrow at his father.
"You're the son of a major god. You believe it'd be so easy to kill you?" Hades rubbed his temples with a hand, "You can only return here by your own accord, Alektos. So this must be where you wanted to be."
"Why would I want to come here? Not to be ironic, but this place is Hell."
"Yes, that's another name for the Underworld."
Alektos turned away from hims father, refusng to meet his eyes, "I'm going to leave now."
"I'll be seeing you again sometime soon, my son," Hades said, then disappeared. Alex turned back, looking up towards the light above. It slowly got brighter and brighter, although he wasn't moving.
"He's coming back!"
"Roll him on his side!"
Sunlight flooded into Alex's vision, as he was rolled onto his side, coughing up water. After heaving for close to two minutes, he finally could breathe in air normally.
