Hinata was slow in waking up. She was so warm. She finally opened her eyes. She didn't recognize where she was! Had she been captured again?! She tried to sit up but there was a weight on her shoulders that held her in place! She prepared to surge up and throw off the weight when her sleepy eyes finally came into focus and pick up on a detail that brought all her memories back.
The weight on her shoulder was attached to a hand. And the arm of that hand had bandages all around it and a black sleeve. Naruto's arm. Wait. Naruto's arm! She focused in on the sounds in the tent. There was a steady breathing pattern coming from Naruto that assured her he was asleep. He let out a little snore and she tried to look at him.
How had she ended up next to him? Last she remembered they had been sitting next to the fire. Had she fallen asleep at the fire? She couldn't remember. She tried to wiggle out from under Naruto's arm. No luck. His arm was a complete dead weight and with how she was positioned she couldn't move it off. How was she going to get out?
She came up with a plan but it was pretty reckless. She tucked her arms to her chest and rolled. She rolled out from under Naruto's arm and sat up on her knees. She sat if silence. He didn't stir. He just snored and pulled his arm in. She looked at their position in the tent.
They had both been lying in the middle of the tent. So either they both fell asleep like that or they both rolled from their respective ends to the middle. They had been lying with Hinata's back against Naruto's chest. At some point he must have thrown an arm over her. She blushed at how close they had been to each other.
She stood up. Her head didn't even touch the top of the tent. The tent was huge. It had a 8ft by 6ft floor plan and was over 6ft tall at the middle. She walked out the tent after a tense unzipping of the door way. She cringed at how loud the zipper seemed in the early morning.
She looked around the campsite. It was clean! Well as clean as a rough circle cleared from snow could be. There weren't any wrappers on the ground, the food had been put away. She was impressed. The evidence suggested that Naruto had cleaned up after she fell asleep. That partially answered her question of what happened. She didn't know what else to do. She put some more wood on the fire and stood up. She needed to go to the bathroom. She walked off into the woods.
Naruto was on that edge of awareness that happens when you wake up. He knew he should just wake up but it was to warm in the tent. He finally sighed and sat up. He looked around confused. Instead of in his corner of the tent he was in the middle. He looked around and saw that Hinata was gone. He sat up straight and was hit with a ray of bright winter sunlight. Hinata must already be awake he thought. He shielded his eyes and got out of the tent.
He could see Hinata's foot prints heading off into the woods. Probably went to go get more wood. He had to go so he walked the opposite way Hinata's foot prints led.
By the time Naruto got back Hinata was moving around the camp packing stuff up. He wordlessly helped take down the tent and accepted the granola bar she offered. They had the tent taken down and everything else packed up quickly. With a short conversation and confirming what way they were headed, Hinata once again took the lead as they started towards the village were they were to meet the caravan.
They chatted about random stuff during their breaks. Just getting to know you stuff. Favorite color, food, weather, season, activity, best memory, worst memory, and just stories in general. By the time the village came into view Naruto felt like he knew Hinata better than he knew any of the team seven members. Sasuke had been gone for a long time so even if he was his best friend he did not know everything about him. Sakura was her own case. If he had stuck around Konoha for those three years he might have known her better.
