Holy shit.
Panic engulfs me as Ryan drops me off at Riley's house. With each heavy step I take towards the door, the faster my heart beats.
Why the hell did I agree to this?!
I don't really care about how I act around Riley, I hate him anyways. I'm more nervous about his family. What if they hate me? What if they instantly label me as one of the dozens of girls he probably brings home all the time? I am not like them at all.
Well, I guess it does kinda look that way to everyone else. Or at least it will once we make this thing public.
I take a deep breath and ring the doorbell, quickly fixing my hair and clothes noticing my disheveled reflection in the glass.
I hear a dog barking and footsteps coming towards the door.
Shit shit shit.
The door opens to reveal a black and brown dog that looks like a Doberman, and a short, older lady, probably in her 50s. She has brown hair with silver streaks going through it.
She smiles a half hearted fake smile as she looks at me while holding back the dog. "You must be here for Riley." She says, and I can't get over how routine that sounds.
I smile nervously. "Hi Mrs. Hunter, I'm Samantha. I'm-"
I pause, not sure how I should introduce myself. Do I say 'girlfriend'? Or do I just say I'm his friend? I end up not saying anything and just stand there awkwardly. This is not good.
All of a sudden, a figure comes running towards the door. It's none other than Riley, my shirtless hero coming to save the day. I hope.
"Mom! I see you've met Samantha before I had a chance to introduce you." He locks eyes with me, probably wondering what I've told her already. "This is Samantha, my girlfriend."
I smile even more nervously and wave a little. Mrs. Hunter's eyes widen and she stares me up and down, making me feel slightly uncomfortable.
She stares at her son in disbelief. "Did you say girlfriend?" She opens the door for me to finally come inside the house. I step in and Riley slings an arm around me.
"Yeah. Ever since yesterday, we're trying it out!" He says proudly sending me a wink. I don't like being this close to him and his bare chest, but I must acknowledge how amazing he smells right now.
His mother raises her eyebrow. "You mean, like actual go on dates and last more than a day, exclusive girlfriend girlfriend?" This comes as a shock to her more than I imagined.
He laughs. "Yes. And I mean hopefully last more than a day" he says smiling down at me. I hit his toned chest in what I hoped kinda looked flirtatious but really I wanted it to hurt.
"Well this is a pleasant surprise. Oh goodness, where are my manners? My name is Anne, I'm Riley's mom." I stick out my hand, she ignores it and surprises me by wrapping me in her arms and giving me a tight motherly squeeze. I already know I'm going to love her. It's a shame her son is such a jerk.
"It's nice to meet you too." I say with the first genuine smile of the visit.
"Please. Make yourself at home. I'll get you a cookie or something!" And with that she starts for the kitchen.
