Jeonghan was miles above the speed limit. His phone sat beside him with a torn out page of his mothers checkbook inside. He couldn't believe Seungcheol had gotten himself into this much trouble. He knew he was a bit of a hoodlum, but he never expected him to be such a streetrat.
He pulled into the police departments parking lot and walked quickly inside.
"I'm here about Choi Seungcheol," Jeonghan said once he reached the front desk. The guard nodded and handed him paper work to fill out for Seungcheol's bail. He knew it was such a process? But after minuets passed, he finished. He wrote out a great big check that he might be grounded for later, but he didn't care as it was for Seungcheol.
He sat for a few minuets while the guards went to go get Seungcheol. His foot tapped in anticipation. He still thought about Wonwoo and Mingyu coming to his house, asking about Seungcheol and being worried where he might be. Thoughts flooded his mind of what got him into this mess, but he tried to block them out. He didn't want to think about that.
Suddenly, a door opened and Seungcheol entered the room, led by a big man in a police uniform. Seungcheol had a couple scrapes and bruises on his hands, and a cut on his face.
Jeonghan stood up and went to his boyfriend.
"What the hell happened to you?" He asked as he pulled the older into a tight embrace. Seungcheol groaned from sore muscles, causing Jeonghan to pull back slowly.
"Sorry," Jeonghan said. Seungcheol only shrugged.
The two walked back to Jeonghans car. Once they started driving, Seungcheol started to explain himself.
"I was going to get groceries," he said, "I wasn't lying. But..." Seungcheol let out a big sigh, "I don't have any money right now. You think working a couple jobs would help a bit, but my sister got sick and her prescription cost me my next three paychecks."
"Are you telling me you shop lifted?" Jeonghan asked, keeping his eyes stright foreword. Seungcheol ran his fingers through his black hair and exhaled heavily.
"I didn't have another choice."
"You could've asked for help. I could lend you-"
"No, Jeonghan. I'm not going to be dependent on other people like that."
"But Seungcheol if you really need it-"
"It's fine."
"But if you don't-"
"Jeonghan, I told you no!"
"Seungcheol listen-"
"Jeonghan, I don't want your money!"
"Well do you want your mom and sister to die?!"
Silence filled the car. The echo of Jeonghans words ringing back into both of the boys ears. He had instantly regretted what he said. Seungcheol looked down at his hands. He could feel tears welling up in the corner of his eyes but refused to let them fall.
"Jeonghan, stop the car," he said sternly. His body tensed from all of the built up emotion inside him that threatened to spill out.
"I'm not going to do that," Jeonghan replied. He was not just going to let Seungcheol wander around in the streets alone. He wasn't going to leave him. But Seungcheol refused.
"Jeonghan, I said stop the car," he said through gritted teeth. Although Jeonghan told himself he wouldn't, he pulled over, too afraid of what Seungcheol might do if he didn't.
The passenger door opened and Seungcheol jumped out. He shut the door and began walking in the opposite direction.
Jeonghan gripped the steering wheel tightly. A tear fell onto his lap, followed by more a more. He could see Seungcheol out of the rear view mirror, getting farther and farther with every step. And though he just wanted to drive away, he couldn't.
Jeonghan opened his car door and got out, standing next to his car as he watched Seungcheol from behind.
"Seungcheol!" He yelled with a shaking voice and his cheeks wet with salty tears.
Seungcheol kept walking, using all the strength in his body not to turn around and go back, not showing a feign of weakness. He didn't stop. He wanted nothing more than to be out of Jeonghans sight. He turned a corner behind a building.
He sat down on the curb and finally let everything out. Sobbing into his hands. He wished he hadn't lashed out on Jeonghan. He wished he hadn't ran away from him. But it's all he could do to remain his composure.
Meanwhile, Jeonghan had gotten back into his car and drove home. Regretful of everything that had happened that day.
