Chapter 1
Riker POV
"Get up! It's snowing!" Ross shouted, jumping on my bed.
"What?" I asked, rubbing my eyes.
"It's snowing! Get up!"
"What? But..."
Ross pushed me out of bed, and I fell on the floor. I walked over to the window.
No snow.
I turned back to face Ross.
"April fools."
I made a face at him.
"You really woke me up just to April fools me?"
"Yes. It was worth it."
I sort of growled at him, and got back into bed. I'm tired...
"No! Get up! Mom and dad made breakfast. And we're having a band meeting over breakfast, so you have to come."
"Oh really? Or is this just another April fools joke to make me walk all the way downstairs?"
"No, we have a band meeting. That's why I woke you up in the first place. Mom told me to."
I sighed.
"Fine..."
I wrapped a blanket around myself, and followed my brother downstairs. Everyone was at the kitchen table, and I smelled pancakes.
I sat down between Rydel and Ross. I was honestly still half asleep.
"Alright. Before we get started, we have to tell you all something," dad said.
Everyone was silently looking at him.
"So... For awhile now, we've been keeping something from you guys... 21 years, actually."
Dad was looking at me. And so was everyone else.
"What!?" I asked.
"Rik, you're 21," Rydel whispered.
"So!?"
"Riker, we just thought you should know... And since Ellington isn't related, we didn't think you'd feel that weird about it. But... You're only half related to your siblings."
"What?"
"You're half related. Before your mom met me, she had another boyfriend."
I crossed my arms.
"Really? Because you said you and mom were together since like high school or college or something."
"We were on and off."
"So I'm half related?"
"Yup."
"Right, ok, April fools..."
"It's not a joke, Riker," Rydel said.
I looked at her in her eyes. Usually it's easy to tell if she's lying. But this time, I can't...
"Haven't you ever wondered why you're the only one who needs to wear glasses?" Rocky asked.
"This isn't fair. You can't tell me something like this on April Fools Day."
I was sort of believing it, sort of not.
"Please can someone just tell me? I'm starting to feel sick inside," I said, drinking some water.
"Riker, it's a joke," mom said.
I sighed in relief.
"Ok, good."
"What's so bad about only being half related? You're still the same Riker. And nothing would be different between us," Rydel said.
"I would just rather be all the way related, ok? Otherwise I would just feel sort of strange, I guess..."
I ate breakfast with them, and we had a band meeting. Dad was telling us that we'd be doing a show at the Rage during their recital's intermission. So it was only going to be me, Ross, and Rocky. Rydel didn't have time because she was performing, and Ellington was busy backstage helping the dancers.
So we'd better be ready by tomorrow.
I went upstairs to my bedroom, and flopped on the bed. I was really tired. And my mind kept wanting to think about the whole half related thing.
I'm the only one that wears glasses... Why doesn't anyone else?
That's just strange.
I pushed those thoughts out of my mind, and decided to go back to sleep. I don't care if it's 10:00 in the morning. I'm going back to bed...
Later...
Rydel POV
"Ross, he's sleeping. Come on. Do it later," I said, trying to protect Riker.
"No. It'll be funnier because he's sleeping."
"Ross, come on! He's tired!"
"No! Shush!"
Ross grabbed the plate of whipped cream, and quietly went upstairs. I followed him, still wanting to stop him.
He went into Riker and Rocky's room, and crept up on Riker. I was about to say something, when Ross smashed the plate into Riker's face. Riker ended up falling out of bed, landing hard on the floor.
I went to go get a towel. I could hear Riker arguing with Ross. Ross passed me in the hallway, and I met Riker in his doorway. I made him go back in his room, and sit on his bed. I started wiping all the whipped cream off of his face.
"Rydel?"
"What?"
"Are you sure it was a joke this morning?"
"What was a joke?"
"Me being half related."
"Riker, it's April Fools Day. Of course it was a joke."
Riker sighed.
"What?"
"It's just... Isn't it weird that I'm the only one who wears glasses?"
"No... Dad wears glasses."
"I know, but none of you have to!"
"Rik... Don't worry... You're not half related."
He sighed again.
"Well I'm going to go take a shower..." He said, getting up.
I watched as he grabbed some clothes, and walked down the hall to the bathroom.
A/N : I may or may not have a theory that Riker is half related. I know that sounds crazy, but throughout the book it'll make more sense because of some of the evidence I've come up with. I'm not saying he is or isn't half related. I'm just saying how it's funny how different he is from the rest of them... But this book is just for fun, so don't get too caught up with this being like... a real possibility or whatever... He's probably completely related. Enjoy! ~Kylie
