Chapter 13

Morning...

Riker POV

I woke up with an intense headache. I drank too much last night...

Luckily for me, Kenzie brought me breakfast in bed, and got me some aspirin.

"Riker?"

"What?"

"I think maybe you have a little problem."

"What?"

"Like... You drink every night. Maybe it's not usually this bad, but you always get kind of tipsy. I think you should stop before it becomes a serious problem."

"Kenzie, I don't have a problem. I was just stressed out last night because my parents came here."

"Then why do you drink on other nights?"

"Because being a waiter is a very stressful job! I never get a moment to sit down, and I'm constantly running around, taking orders, and delivering food. And I do that from 4:00 to 10:00 like every night."

"Riker, I seriously think you should cut back on the drinking. Have soda or something instead."

"No. I don't have a problem. Alcohol makes me feel better."

"Riker, once this gets bad, it's going to be really hard to stop."

"No, it's not. Because it's not going to get bad. Trust me. I know myself. And I won't let it become a problem."

"Well... Whatever... It's your body. Are you going to open the envelope?"

"What envelope?"

"The one your parents left."

"Oh... Yeah, I guess... Do you know where I put it?"

"It's in your pants pocket. And your pants are in the bathroom, where you left them last night."

I got up, feeling dizzy at first. I got the envelope, and sat down again.

"Well go on," Kenzie said, watching me.

"I'm scared..."

"Riker, just open it."

"Fine..."

I opened the envelope. There were a few pieces of paper inside that were stapled together.

"What is it?" Kenzie asked.

I scanned the papers with my eyes.

"Uh... So... My dad went and got his DNA tested apparently... And he prepaid for me to go there and get mine tested too."

"Wait. So you can go see if he's your real father!"

"Yeah, I guess..."

"Riker, you should be happy! You can finally know!"

"Yeah, well maybe I don't want to know!"

"Riker. Why wouldn't you want to?"

"Because he kicked me out! That wasn't very nice! And if I am his son, then it's not very nice of him to kick out his very own child!"

"Riker, if he is your real father, it wasn't very nice of you to accuse him of not being your real father, and then storming out of the house. I know you're not going to like me saying this, but it's kind of your own fault that you got kicked out. You're the one that left in the first place."

"Yeah, well I'm not the one who said I was half related! Do you know how many differences there are between me and my siblings!?"

"Yes. You told me."

I sighed.

"Well I'll have to think about it..."

Later...

Riker POV

You know, it's very difficult to do your job when your family keeps showing up. Rydel had come tonight, and she was crying. I told her I couldn't talk until I was done with work, so she said she'd be back later. But of course that just made me anxious. I never wanted the night to end because I was dreading seeing my sister. I didn't know what she was going to say, or if she was going to yell at me. And the fact that she was crying just made me feel even worse inside.

When I was done with work, I told Kenzie to start dinner without me, and I would be there after I talked to my sister. Rydel and I went up to my room.

"Why are you here?" I asked, sitting down on my bed.

"You need to come home, Riker."

"I can't. I got kicked out."

"I talked to dad today. He says if you're willing to sign another contract, and be in R5 again and stuff, you can come back."

"Well I don't know if I want to come back or not."

"Riker, you can't be serious."

"I am! I'm perfectly happy here. I have a job, a place to stay, and I have a girlfriend."

"Yeah, why does she live up here with you?"

"How do you know she lives up here!?"

"Riker. Do you see all the girl clothing up here?"

"Right... Well... She needed a place to stay."

"Are you sleeping with her?"

"No! She just needed somewhere to stay. We're boyfriend and girlfriend, but we don't sleep together! I haven't even known her that long!"

"Riker, please just come back home. Did you go get your DNA tested yet?"

"No, and I don't know if I'm going to."

"Riker, you're being so stupid right now."

"I don't care! If I'm being called irresponsible, then I'm going to live up to that and show you all what irresponsible looks like! Now if you're done talking, I have a dinner date to go to and some Riker drinks to drink."

"What does that even mean?"

"It means I have a drink named after me, and you don't! That's how great my life is! And you can go back home and tell dad that I am perfectly happy living right here, being a waiter!"

"But this isn't your dream, Riker! You dream was to be a rockstar, and if you don't come home, you're giving that up."

"Whatever, Rydel."

I walked out of the room. She's kept me waiting long enough.
