Chapter 17
Middle of the night...
Riker POV
I couldn't sleep. I just need to clear my head, and the only way to do that is if I have a drink. But there's no alcohol in the house.
I looked next to me, and saw my sister fast asleep. It's the middle of the night, after all...
I slowly got out of bed, and made my way over to the window. I opened the window, and silently slipped out, onto the roof.
I walked over to where a tree branch was nearby, climbed onto the branch, and climbed down to the ground. I started walking down the road towards the gas station. They'll have beer.
A little while later...
Rydel POV
My phone dinged, waking me up. I guess I forgot to shut off the sound before I went to sleep.
I grabbed my phone, and squinted at the screen. It was from one of my friends.
"Did I just see your brother walking on the side of the street?"
What?
I turned to look next to me. But Riker wasn't there.
"Where are you?" I texted back.
"About 5 minutes from your house."
"Can you please go back and convince Riker to get in your car. I'll be there in a few minutes."
"Sure."
I slid on my sweatshirt, and noticed the window was open.
That idiot...
I went out the window too, and followed my friend's directions to where she was. I walked quickly down the road until I got there. Riker was in the front seat, and he was holding a beer bottle. But thank god, it wasn't open.
I yanked the door open.
"What do you think you're doing!?" I shouted at my brother.
"I'm sorry! I just needed a drink to clear my head! I can't get to sleep! And I haven't gotten any sleep at all for the past 2 days!"
"Get out."
Riker got out of the car. My friend left, and I stood there, glaring at my brother.
"You're going to mess up all your hard work if you drink that. You'll have to start all over again."
I took the beer from him, and threw the bottle as far as I could into the woods on the side of the road. I looked back at Riker, and he looked extremely guilty.
"Come on," I said, grabbing his hand.
"Isn't home the other way?"
"Yup."
"Where are we going?"
I didn't answer him. We kept walking until we got to a nearby diner, that was open 24/7. We went in, and got a seat.
"Order something," I said.
"Why? I don't even have money. I only brought enough for the beer."
"I have money. Order something."
Riker sighed, and decided to get french fries. We sat there until he finished them.
"Do you feel any better now?" I asked.
"My stomach hurts."
"Hasn't it been hurting all day?"
"Yeah, but it hurts a little worse now..."
