Chapter 3

Later...

Riker POV

"Riker?"

"Go away."

"Riker, please open the door."

"No."

I knew it was Rydel, but I just didn't want to talk to anyone right now.

"Riker, please. I'm going to sit outside your door until you come out. You can't hide in there forever."

I sighed, and opened the door. Rydel wrapped her arms around me. I hugged her back.

Rydel and I pulled apart. Rydel shut the door, grabbed my hand, and pulled me over to my bed.

"Rik, I'm really worried about you. Please can you tell me why you were on the bathroom floor this morning?"

"Ok, wait. How do you know I was on the floor?"

"I looked under the door, and I saw your hair."

"Oh..."

"Rik, please tell me."

I sighed.

"I woke up in the middle of the night, and I was just really tired."

"So why didn't you go back to sleep in... like your bed?"

"Because I went to the bathroom, but then... I don't know..."

"Riker, tell me the truth."

I sighed again.

"Riker, please."

"Ok, fine. But you can't laugh at me."

"I won't. I just want to know."

"Ok, well... I had this dream... And everybody was telling me that I wasn't important anymore because I was only half related. And I got kicked out of R5. And... I woke up and I was just upset, so I went to the bathroom to splash some cold water on my face... Um... And... I was just really upset, so I sat down on the floor and... Um... cried... And I guess I fell asleep."

"Aw, Riker."

She hugged me tightly.

"Riker, you're not half related. But even if you were, we would still love you the same. You're still just as important, and you're not getting kicked out of R5. I promise."

I sighed.

"But I look so different."

"Riker. You're not half related. It was a prank."

I sighed again.

"Come on. Mom saved you some pancakes downstairs. You can still have some breakfast."

"Ok..."

Rydel grabbed my wrist, and pulled me downstairs. She sat with me at the table while I ate, and kept me company.

"Rik, you ok?"

"Yes..."

"But you still seem upset."

"I can't help it..."

"Riker, you're not half related!"

I got up, and went upstairs. But Rydel followed me.

"Riker, come on. It was a joke. Why don't you believe me?"

"Because I look different!"

Rydel sighed.

"Rik... You're not half related."

"Just leave me alone, ok?"

"Whatever, Riker..."

Rydel left, and I crawled back into my bed, feeling depressed.

A few days later...

Rydel POV

I'm really concerned about Riker. He's convinced himself that he's half related. He went out and bought a piece of poster board, and he has a bunch of pictures cut out and glued on it, comparing all of us to him. He's become completely obsessed.

"Riker, we have a band meeting in 5 minutes!" I said, knocking on his door.

I went downstairs to the living room to wait for everyone else. Riker was the last one to show up, and he sat on the floor.

"Alright. You guys have a show on Friday at a local-"

"I can't go," Riker said.

Everyone stared at him.

"Riker, you have to. This is your job," dad said.

"No. I can't. I have an announcement to make."

Everyone stared at him.

"I am half related. So I want to go find my other family. So... For now, I'm done with R5. I need to go figure out my life."

"Riker, you're not half related, you're not going anywhere, and you're doing the show on Friday," dad said, being stern.

"No I am not! I'm 21, and I can do whatever I want! And I'm going to find my real family! You guys lied to me! There's no way I'm staying here!"

"Riker... We're not lying. You're completely related."

"Lies!"

"Riker, we have a contract. You can't leave," dad said.

"Watch me."

Riker got up, and marched up the stairs. And I knew he was in big trouble. We all have contracts with dad because he manages us, and the contracts basically say he 'owns' us. But that doesn't usually affect us. It just means he picks where we play shows and stuff. And Riker can't just 'quit' the band like this.

Riker POV

I angrily shoved some clothes into my suitcase. I'm so mad at them! They kept this from me my whole life, and now they just expect me to be ok with it!?

I don't believe them at all. I can see the physical differences between me and my siblings.

I grabbed my suitcase and my backpack. I was about to walk out of my bedroom when dad stopped me.

"Where do you think you're going, mister?"

To be honest, dad scared me. A lot. Especially when I knew I was doing something wrong.

"I-I'm going t-to um... f-find my r-real f-family."

"Riker. We are your real family. There's nobody else out there."

"Stop! You're not even my real dad! The only person I'm really related to is mom!"

I pushed past him, and started running.

"Riker Anthony Lynch!"

I would've made it outside if I hadn't forgotten my dang keys. Dad met me at the front door.

"Get your butt back up to your bedroom. Now," dad growled at me.

"N-no. I'm l-leaving."

"Riker, if you leave, I am not letting you come back here."

"Good! I'll live with my real father and his family!"

I got my keys, opened the door, and marched out of there. He thinks I'll actually want to come back. Funny...

I'm going to find my family.

I threw my stuff in the back of my car, and got in. I drove to the park because I didn't want to be at home. I just need to figure out where I'm going now...
