Chapter 18

Later...

Riker POV

"Rik? Riker, wake up."

I opened my eyes. Rydel was standing next to me, holding a plate of toast.

"Want some dinner?"

I nodded. She put the plate on my lap, and helped me sit up a little bit more.

"How are you feeling?"

"My hands aren't shaking anymore. And my head and stomach don't hurt as much. But I still feel sort of sick..."

"Well at least you're feeling a little bit better."

"Yeah, definitely... Can I come eat in the kitchen with everyone?"

"Yeah, of course you can."

Rydel helped me up, and she walked me into the kitchen. I sat down next to her. Everyone else was having spaghetti. But I was having toast, which I was fine with. Honestly, I think I'd feel better about throwing up toast than spaghetti. If I threw up spaghetti, it would look like I threw up worms...

Plus I probably have a better chance of holding the toast down.

I ate dinner, and got stomach cramps, but they weren't too bad this time. Rydel suggested I get some exercise to settle my stomach a little, so I went for a walk with her to get the mail, and then walked down the street a bit. And it made my stomach feel a little better.

My phone buzzed, and I looked down at it. Kenzie's calling me. I answered it.

"Hello?"

"Riker."

"What?"

"Rydel told me what happened."

"Oh... Are you mad?"

"No. I'm glad you're getting better."

"Um... So are we... like... together still?"

"If you want to still be a couple, then sure."

I smiled.

"Awesome."

"So how are you feeling?"

"Eh... Not so good, but... I'm getting there. I have a counselor who comes and checks on me. She was supposed to come every day, but she only comes every other day because I have so many people who can watch me. And on the days that she doesn't come, she emails me."

"Oh... That's good."

"So um... I was wondering if maybe you wanted to come and visit me?"

"Sure. When?"

"Uh... Tomorrow?"

"Ok."

"I'm just sort of lonely. I know I have my siblings, but I'm just a little bit lonely because I'm stuck in my house. Mom doesn't trust me to go out alone yet. She thinks I'll sneak alcohol or something."

"Oh... Would you?"

"I don't know. But it's definitely a temptation..."

"Alright... Well I'll see you tomorrow, Riker."

"Ok. Bye."

"Bye."

I was kind of excited to see Kenzie. But I was also really tired even though I took a nap. I went upstairs, and went to bed.

The next day...

Riker POV

"Rik, wake up. Kenzie's here," Rydel said, shaking me.

"Hmmm?"

I opened my eyes, seeing my sister and Kenzie.

"Oh, I forgot..." I mumbled.

"It's about lunch time," Rydel said, leaving.

I sat up, and Kenzie sat down on the end of my bed.

"Look. I need to tell you something. And I have no idea how it's going to sound because I'm still half asleep. But here it goes... Um... So obviously, I made a huge mistake with the whole I'm half related thing. And I got addicted to alcohol, and I treated you horribly. Rydel told me about the glass I threw at you... Kenzie, I'm so sorry. I've been an awful boyfriend. I have no idea why you're still even my girlfriend. I would've broken up with me by now. I was just wondering if maybe when I'm better, we could start over?"

Kenzie smiled, and took both of my hands in hers.

"Sure, Riker. I would love that."

I sighed in relief.

"Ok. Thanks."

Kenzie pulled me to her in a tight hug.

"Riker, I didn't break up with you because I could tell that wasn't the real you. And I knew you were trying to find the right way to make everything alright again. I wanted to give you a chance because you gave me one when you helped me break up with my boyfriend and live in your hotel room. And besides, you're absolutely adorable. I'd be stupid to give up someone as great as you."

She put her hand up to my cheek, making me blush hard.

"Thanks," I said, blushing even more.

"You're welcome. So how are you feeling?"

"A lot better than I was a few days ago, that's for sure... I can actually eat without throwing up now."

"That's good. So um... I talked to your mom."

"My mom?"

"Yeah."

"About what?"

"She said if you're feeling up to it, that we could go out on a date tonight, as long as you stay away from alcohol. I'll be there to watch you, so she agreed to it."

"Yes! I would love that!"

"Cool. In that case, I'm going to head home so I can get ready and everything. I'll pick you up around 5:30, ok?"

"Yeah. Thanks for giving me another chance, Kenzie."

She hugged me tight.

"I'll see you in a few hours."

She kissed my cheek, and then left. I felt amazing inside.
