3) Rolling in the Deep like Adele
We all have that one song.
The one you never sick of hearing, no matter how many times it's put on repeat.
The one that, no matter how you feel or what mood you're in, makes you smile.
I dance around my room like a lunatic as my 'It's going to be okay' playlist thrums through the house. I sing at the top of my lungs hoping that the events of yesterday will disappear.
Smack!
A pillow comes out of nowhere knocking me backwards. How do I always keep ending up on the floor?
"Mace. You alright down there?" I hear the concern in a familar person's voice who is most definitely going to be dead in the next ten seconds.
"CHARLIE!!" I jump up and launch at him, hitting him repeatedly with my other pillow. "Why. Would. You. Do. That? Why are you even here?"
He catches my next hit with ease.
"I came to pick you up as well as saving the neighbourhoods ears from bleeding. There was a terrible noise coming from your room and I can only assume it was you attempting to sing ."
So maybe I'll never aspire to win a Grammy or Toney award but my voice isn't so bad that cats serenade with me.
But when I have a horrible day I don't care if I sound like a dying sea cow. I will sing my heart out with my amazing out of tune voice.
"I will sing as much as I want thank you very much. Now let me get back to wallowing in my misery and leave me alone so I can forget the embarrassment, which I call my life." I crawl under my warm doona. There is no way that I'm leaving this bed anytime soon.
"Come on Mace, " Charlie sighs and comes to sit on my bed "you're going to make both of us late for school. You know Mr Brantmen said next time I was late he was going to lock the room so I'd have to climb through the window. And I think we all know how that's going to end."
I poke my head out from the covers.
"You would consider going through the window but as it's at the top of a 3 story building that's very unlikely. You'll probably end up at the door, knocking repeatedly and telling knock-knock jokes till he gets annoyed and opens the door."His eyebrows shoot up in surprise "It's scary that you know what I'm thinking." It take him a moment to consider his next thoughts "If you come I'll buy you ice-cream on the way home. You can't say no to creamy deliciousness with unlimited toppings."
"Ice cream and a teacup pig," I demand.
"A teacup pig?" He exclaims "Where in the world am I going to get a teacup pig? Do we even have teacup pigs in Australia?"
"No clue. You're the one that's buying me a teacup pig," I shrug "maybe look on eBay, you never know what you'll find online."
His stare alone, tells me that I'm not getting a teacup pig anytime soon.
"Fine ice cream and a tub of Nutella."
My uniform gets thrown in my face "Great doing business with you , now get ready. We're leaving in 5 minutes, " Charlies says as he leaves my room.
"Why am I still friends with him" I mumble to myself.
"Because you love me, " He sticks his head through the doorway "4 minutes and 37 seconds. "
Annoyed, I throw a pillow at his head. The things I do for food
****
I have my headphones on hoping that it would block out any chatter.
