Danial’s Pov
After losing my Mariam in a car crash, I thought, no one; in fact I knew there was nothing left for me. Nothing that could ever make me laugh, love or live. When she died I decided to drag my life till death comes to me but what I never hoped or thought of was that my family had plans for me, which I didn’t like at all.
I don’t think they seem to care as to what I want, at least not any more. I waited in the hall for my Mom to come and tell me something, something which I already knew. Well I don’t make a habit to eavesdrop it was just that I heard her mentioning it when I was passing by.
“Danial, I want you to go to the airport tomorrow.”
Keep it cool, I thought to myself as I asked her, “But why Mom, is anybody visiting us?”
“Yes dear, your dad’s friend’s daughter is coming to attend Hamza’s wedding.”
“But why do I have to go? I mean, can’t Rehan or Hamza go and pick her up?”
“Unlike you, Mr. Dropout, I have to attend college”, my elder brother Rehan replied.
I looked at Hamza, my eldest brother, who simply shrugged of the task saying that he had an important meeting. I glanced at my Mom who seems too busy to even listen to our conversation. I sighed and got up to leave, and my Mom spoke up just then.
“Oh by the way, her name is Ameena, remember that and reach the airport on time.” She left me then.
I went to my room and slammed the door shut. I sat on my bed thinking. My phone rang and I picked it up without even looking at the screen.
“Hello?”
“Hey man, just called to remind you of our plan tomorrow. You are coming, right?” It was Aditya on the other side, my friend since high school. I sighed as I told him what my mother asked me a few minutes ago.
“Not to worry, we’ll have someone else drop her at your place.” Aditya offered. I thought about it and agreed. After chatting with him for a few more minutes, I ended the call.
I was lying on my bed when I saw her. She walked up to me and sat on the edge of my bed. She smiled at me and said "Let go." ,I woke up with a start and looked around my room searching for her but I couldn’t find her. It was a dream.
STRANGE! I always dreamed of her when something big, something good was about to happen; but not this time. I picked up my cell phone and look at her sweet smiling face. Nobody can take her place and nobody will I promised this to myself and once again managed to fall asleep; this time without any dreams.
I woke up in the morning, took a shower and went in the kitchen to have something, and as soon as I entered my mom bombarded me with her usual questions, which I ignored I took an apple and was about to leave when she said, “Why do you do this? Why don't you say your prayers?" before she could continue I cut her midsentence "Because he (allah;god) doesn’t listen.” I yelled; and before she could say another word I left the kitchen, grabbed my keys and jacket and left for Aditya's place. At least there I would have some peace of mind.
When I reached there I found Aditya playing his guitar, he was good at it and he wished to become a great singer and guitarist one day. I on the other hand wanted to be a politician but of course that’s not happening! Actually I have no idea as to what I am going to do with my life.
Finally he stopped playing, and I looked at him. He was looking at me with concern in his eyes.
"What’s wrong?" I asked.
