Sara's POV
I woke up to the sound of a dhol (drum), being played somewhere in the distance. I tried to cut it by covering my ears with the pillow. It became muffled but it never died .Frustrated, I got up from the bed and went towards the balcony (veranda) to see which idiot was playing it so early in the morning. Soon as I entered it I noticed that the sun was already up I rushed inside to check the time. It was 10:30 am.'Shit! I missed my Fajr salah (morning prayer)', I thought to myself. Again I heard the musical sound and went to see that person. To my surprise, it was not just one person but many, around 50 people. They were all Indians with the men having turbans over their head and the women having their head covered with a dupatta (scarf that women use to cover their head or shoulders), some of them were dancing, and some playing the dhol (drum), while others; mostly the elders only clapped their hands while walking. I could tell that there must be some occasion at their place, since this is how they (the Sikhs and Hindus) celebrate in India.
I didn't realize that I was smiling at this scene in front of me. I couldn't help smiling; it made feel like I was almost home. Great I am homesick now.
A guy around his twenties looked up at me and smiled and I smiled back. He then motioned me to join them, but I shook my head at him and motioned for him to carry on. He smiled again, then went on to do Bhangra( a type of Indian folk dance) with his brothers. After watching them for a few more minutes, I went inside. I quickly took a shower and got dressed in a light blue jeans and a purple V-neck t-shirt. I made a messy sideways fishtail braid and went downstairs.
"Assalamualaikum", I greeted everyone on the dining table.
"Waalekumassalam", they echoed back.
"Aunty, why didn't you wake me up? I missed my morning prayers.”
"Honey, I did sent Danial to wake you up but you didn't wake up. Perhaps you must have been tired after your shopping spree yesterday. Anyways, what would you like to have for breakfast, you must be hungry?"
It was then that I realised that I hadn't eaten anything since yesterday morning. Surprisingly, I wasn't feeling hungry at all.
"Not really, nonetheless I’ll have omelet." I replied. I noticed that Mr. Split personality was missing.
Just then I heard the sound of the main door bursting open and being shut with a loud bang. Seconds later he appeared into the dining hall with his messy hair flopping on his forehead. I quickly averted my gaze and shifted it to my plate. He came and sat by my side and grabbed the half eaten sandwich from my hands and shoved it into his mouth. I gaped at him. How could he eat my sandwich? My question was soon answered.
"Mom I am starving”, he whimpered like a child. This guy has some serious problem. I mean, like seriously, just a second ago he looked aggressive and mad and now he is being childish.
"What? Don’t you have anything else to do than stare at me?” He hissed at me, thankfully in a whisper so that only I could hear him.
"You ate my sandwich, don’t you have manners? Sorry clearly you don't since you didn't even ask”, I said through gritted teeth. It was amazing how easily he could make me angry.
He gave me an irritated look then continued saying, “Sorry Miss Hygiene but like I said I am starving so I didn't think it was necessary to ask you to eat that sandwich besides it's my home and you are a guest here not the other-way round so it's you who need to ask” , he said challenging.
