Danial’s POV
Later that day after dinner, finally John and Silvia came back to pick up Drake. By now I was a hundred percent sure that Silvia didn’t care for her son as much as she should, because she had left him with us for the entire evening and not even bothered to call once. It was John who had called twice to know about him but Silvia didn’t bother.
Finally, after handing Drake over to Silvia, Sara massaged her shoulders but even then she looked like she didn’t want him to leave. Going by her looks, one could easily say that she was tired but she would have never admitted it.
In fact when Rehan suggested that she should go to bed early, she simply said that she felt like going for a walk and having ice-cream.
So, after a ten minutes debate, Rehan, Ashar Sara and I went to take a walk. First the plan was to stroll around in our backyard but then Sara insisted that we should walk to the nearest ice-cream parlor and trust me when I say this, she is hard to say no to simply because she wouldn’t take no for an answer.
“You should start working out or at least go jogging for half an hour or so. You really need it”, Sara said once we hit the road. We were all walking side by side thereby blocking half of the road, not that there were many vehicles going by at this time of the day.
I checked the time; it was already half past ten. It had taken us more time than necessary to bid goodbye to Drake, because he was leaving the next day itself. Mom and grandma were on the verge of crying and Sara looked both happy and sad at the same time.
The strangest thing that had happened was that once Sara took Drake in her arms, he didn’t go to anyone else, not even my mom. And when his mother had arrived he looked as if he was unhappy to leave, because he started crying when Sara handed him back to Silvia, which was weird.
“Whom are you talking about?”, Ashar asked her.
“I was talking about Danial but I think you should start with your practice too, right after you are able to, I mean. I think everyone should start going for a jog every morning. It’s important to remain healthy”, she said in a thoughtful tone.
“Becoming fitness freaks are we now”, I teased her but she just gave me a solemn look.
“My uncle died in a fire, just because he couldn’t run faster and couldn’t reach the door in time, he got suffocated way too easily because he used to smoke. I don’t want anyone to have to experience that, it must have been awful. A painful death is the last thing anyone could ask for”, she spoke in a soft, calm voice.
Ashar bumped his shoulder against hers, and then winced in pain.
“Ashi, don’t be stupid”, Sara spoke with a disapproving look.
“What happened?”, he asked her turning all serious, suddenly I felt as if I was intervening, as if I shouldn’t be there listening to their conversation.
“Nothing, read an article in the newspaper and grandpa showed me some of my grandfather’s photographs”, she said smiling that fake smile of hers.
“You never showed me”, Ashar said looking hurt.
Sara laughed a little then spoke with a mischievous smile on her face, “I doubt you would want to see a very fat baby Danny, standing in his teddy bear panties”, I felt my cheeks and ears turning hot, blood rushing to my face faster than a shooting star.
“Oh no, I don’t”, Ashar replied giving her an amused smile.
I pretended to be angry and so puffed my cheeks out and walked a bit faster, hoping that they would apologize for making fun of me, even though it was not a big deal.
